Weight training better than aerobics for belly fat: Harvard study. Whether it's learning to say "no" to dessert or saving more for retirement, most of us could use a little more willpower. Mastering self-control can be as simple as training our brains to think "hot" or "cool," says one of the most influential modern psychologists, Walter Mischel, famously known for the "Marshmallow test.

" You may be familiar with the image: A little kid sits at a table, faced with a single marshmallow. "You can eat this now," the researcher tells her, or "you can wait and have two marshmallows later. " It's the choice of immediate pleasure or delayed gratification— and a larger reward later. Shutterstock Eat one marshmallow now or wait for two? The "Marshmallow test" — devised by Mischel at Stanford University's Bing Nursery School in the 1960's — has come to symbolize the art of willpower and self-control. The "Marshmallow test," it turned out, also predicted future success.

I really want that cupcake NOW. 1. "High delayers" could distract themselves or "cool" the treat.

P90X Creator and Fitness Guru Tony Horton. Tony Horton is the creator and marketer of the P90x, a set of workout DVDs that Paul Ryan credits for keeping him in shape. I quizzed him about fitness, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the congressional gym. Obviously P90X has been very good for Congressman Paul Ryan. Has Paul Ryan been good for P90X? I think Paul Ryan’s been very good for P90X, as much or more so as Michelle Obama. I’ve worked with the First Lady and her Let’s Move campaign, and more than half the Secret Service came up to me and said, hey man, we’re really loving the P90X. I’m well aware that they’re using it in the White House.

I’ve been to the congressional gym I think, seven or eight times. Is that a good gym? (MORE: Paul Ryan’s Killer Workout: Is P90X for You?) So maybe when they’re in there sweating and they’re in, say, their 45th minute, you could just subtly say, let’s talk about the national debt? You’re 54 and you’re incredibly cut. Recently you tweeted “aging is for idiots.” Everyone can pronounce corn dog.

Little sleep, lots of stress, free food at all hours, and Paul Singh constantly try to booze you under the table. Sounds like the old college days when you tried to rush for Sigma Chi, doesn’t it?

But nope. That describes life at 500 Startups. For a former fat kid like me, it’s an environment where I can accidentally gain 15 lbs in the blink of an eye. Put a pizza or a tray of doughnuts in front of me and I will devour the goodies without a second thought. I’m sure you’ve heard it before – the myth that losing weight is impossible for the busy entrepreneur.

Exercise I skipped cardio Herein lies the greatest irony: in the office, we endlessly obsess over ROI; in the gym, however, we pound away on the treadmill for hours and hours (probably while thinking about none other than ROI). Weight loss comes from nothing more than a caloric deficit. Diet Breakfast?
