Baked Lemon Pasta. I love simple dishes like this. They remind me of my single vegetarian days in L.A. when I’d often come home from work and find a total of three grocery items in my kitchen. This is in contrast to the 9.446 grocery items in my kitchen now—everything from bacon grease to a freezer full of beef, but we won’t go there today.

Lemon is an unlikely flavoring for pasta, but oh…is it ever refreshing and good, especially in the spring and summer. This is a baked version, but if you’re in a hurry there’s nothing more delicious than this: saute butter and olive oil, add chopped garlic. Squeeze in the juice of a couple of lemons and add in some of the zest. Stir together and add a splash or two of half and half or cream, then toss with pasta, chopped parsley, and Parmesan cheese.

Divine. There’s something about this baked version, though, that I just love. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it. This recipe may be doubled, tripled, or octupled—it’s totally easy. It’s amazing that a dish so very simple can be so dangerously delicious. Tonight I layered in Chicken Breasts, but sometimes I layer in browned pork-chops or thick slices of ham in between the layers of potatoes, cream and cheese. This is the perfect . . . The hardest part, is rolling your chicken breasts in flour and browning both sides of the chicken in an oil/butter mix until they are a beautiful golden brown color.

I think I have discovered the ultimate way to use up leftover mashed potatoes and the perfect appetizer for New Year’s Eve cocktail parties. First you mix left over potatoes with fresh roasted garlic and shredded Gruyere cheese. Next they are coated in a mixture of regular and panko bread crumbs. Finally you take the cheesy roasted garlic potato balls and fry them until they are perfectly golden brown. They are crispy on the outside and oh so soft on the inside. As if I really needed another way to eat mashed potatoes. But after trying something similar to this out at a local restaurant, I couldn’t resist the temptation to make them at home. The numbers of combinations that you could do with this recipe are essentially endless. These are scrumptious on their own but would also be great dipped in Truffle Aioli. There are so many wonderful, inherently delicious flavors in the most simple ingredients, and you don’t always have to grind and saute and mix and beat and sear and combine thousands of ingredients to make something utterly delicious.

Sesame noodles fall under that umbrella. This is a very simple recipe for yummy sesame noodles. I love them just the way they are. Start by cooking noodles.
