Martial Tai Chi™ : DVDs: Sun Style Baguazhang

Sun Style Baguazhang From the cover ...One thing that struck us is just how clear, concise, and modular the Sun Style is. We know it's not as flashy as most other Bagua styles, but that's why we love it. "A Martial Foundation for Baguazhang" shows circle walking, postures and stepping methods as well as palm striking and kicking techniques. "Sun Style Baguazhang" shows the 10 Sun Style Palm Changes as described in Sun Lutang's book, plus plenty of combat applications. "These dvd's are a treasure! ← back to dvd home. Martial Tai Chi™ : Articles : Xingyiquan.

Xingyiquan About Xingyi Xingyiquan is generally considered to be one of the older Chinese martial styles, dating back to the famous boxer and spear fighter Ji Longfeng (a.k.a.

Ji Jike) back in the early seventeenth century. While the Forms of Xingyi are simple, the movements have a great many uses and indeed there is a Xingyi saying that "to know one (technique) is to know ten! " In Xingyi, movements are performed at a brisk pace which helps the cardiovascular fitness of students. Taiji already has a great reputation in the West for health cultivation, but in China, Xingyi is known to have produced some of the longest-lived practitioners of any style, with some teachers still able to bash all comers at the age of 100! All of the movement and posture principles are essentially the same as for our style of Taiji, and it too places a strong emphasis on the "Reeling Silk" (Martial Rotation) power generation method. Paoquan (cannon fist) Here the association is with cannons and with fire.

Home. The martial techniques from those traditional styles are very useful to us because they provide us with additional examples and combinations of whole-body-power manifestation. UMT is the key we use to unlock those styles. We can expand on their techniques, combine them in whatever permutations combat demands and create new movements of our own, providing they obey the same principles. Really, the specific fighting techniques found in those traditional styles are only examples of how to move in a strategically effective way with whole body power - it doesn’t end there.

Now, something I haven't yet mentioned is that during the time I studied Bagua, I was also exposed to Taiji training methods. The class was split between Taiji students and Bagua students, and we'd share a number of training methods, including push hands sensitivity training. I also encountered Taiji people in my Silat, but again, I didn't really get it. Martial Tai Chi™ : Articles : 100% Qi-Free.

"100% Qi-Free? How can that be?! " Nowhere is the concept of "qi" more slavishly and vehemently clung to than in the world of Tai Chi, and in particular, the world of perhaps overly zealous Sinophile Western Tai Chi practitioners. Consequently I have decided to dedicate an entire portion of this website to the matter. In the past I have had many arguments with people on various forums and blogs over the issue of "qi", when they have taken exception to articles on this site. Indeed, people who had previously said very positive things about our work have actually changed their tune upon discovering our stance on "qi".

I have very activeley tried to believe that "qi" does exist in the past, but my own experiences, along with the many encounters and dialogues I have had with people who do believe in it have only convinced me that it doesn't. - Charles Grosvenor Osgood, in his preface to James Boswell's "Life of [Samuel] Johnson" (The quote is often attributed to Johnson).
