Hmong Youth Education Services (HYES), formerly the Lauj Youth Society of Minnesota, Inc. (LYS), was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1993 by concerned parents wanting to help their children become educated self-sufficient members of American society. grew out of earlier efforts begun in the 1980s by Hmong parents and the Hmong community to provide academic tutoring and support for Hmong youth.
Many Americans mistake them for Chinese or Vietnamese, but the many Hmong immigrants in our nation are from a distinct culture.
