Pearltrees is a place to organize everything. This free service lets you organize, explore and share everything you’re interested in. Save web pages, files, photos or notes and organize them. Explore amazing collections that relate to your interests and subscribe to their updates. • Is Pearltrees free?

Yes, Pearltrees is free! You can have a place to organize everything you’re interested in for free. However, Pearltrees also offers several advanced features and more storage to premium members.

• Who can see my collections?

Collections are visible to everyone.
This is what creates the social wealth of Pearltrees: you can explore new collections around your interests, and collaborate with other enthusiasts.
If you become a premium member, you'll be able to turn some or all of your collections private.

• How is Pearltrees social?

In Pearltrees, your collections are connected to the collections of other contributors that have elements in common. This allows you to:
  • Explore collections around your interests, organized by other community members
  • Add the collections that appeal to you to your account to track their activity
  • Collaborate with other enthusiasts. Team-up to organize a collection on a topic you're interested in.

How do I add a note to my account?

• What can I add in my account?

You can add web pages, files, photos, notes and more… You can then arrange everything into collections. A collection works as a folder in which you can organize items or other collections.

• How do I add a web page in my account?

There are several simple ways to add a web page in your account:
  • From within your account, you can click the "Add" button (with the star) to add an item and choose "Web Page" in the menu. Then simply paste the URL of the web page.
  • If you use Pearltrees on your computer, you can use the web clipper (or bookmarklet), making it very convenient while browsing the Web. When you like a web page, click the web clipper to add it directly to your account.
  • If you use Pearltrees for iPhone, iPad, or Android, you can search for a web page directly from the browser built into the app! Simply click on "Add", choose "Web page", then enter your search terms.
  • If you use Android, you can also use the "Share" button of your applications to add directly into Pearltrees the content that interests you.
  • You can automatically add the links you share on Facebook and Twitter. To connect your Pearltrees account to your Facebook and / or Twitter accounts: open the menu "My Account" then click "Facebook / Twitter".
  • Finally, you can add a web page with a simple email! Just send the URL of the web page at add@pearltrees.com from the email address you use for your Pearltrees account.

• How do I add a file to my account?

There are several ways :
  • The easiest: Drag and Drop a document directly from your computer into your Pearltrees account.
  • click the "Add" button in your account and select ‚"File" from the menu.
  • On mobile: add files from other apps using the button "Open" and the "Share" button on Android.

  • Attention, all iOS apps do not offer the functionality to "open in".

• How do I add a photo to my account?

You can simply drag one or several photo(s) directly from your computer in your Pearltrees account. In your account, you can also click the "Add" button and select "Photo" in the menu.
If you are using iOS or Android app, you can either take a new picture or select one from the camera roll on your device. With Android and iOS 8 you can also add directly an album via the share button.

• How do I add a note to my account?

In your account, click the "Add" button and choose "Note" in the menu. You can then write your note, and organize your library. From your computer you can also select the text in a document or a web page and Drag and Drop it directly into your account.

• How do I make my collections private?

If you are a premium member, you can create private collections. To do this, simply click on "Make private collection" when you create a new collection. All collections and all the items that you put inside this collection will be private. You can also make an existing collection private by clicking the edit button of the collection and choosing "Make private".

• What is the web clipper?

The web clipper allows you to quickly and easily collect a web page or elements of a web page (photos, texts, videos) directly from your browser. It is available for the browsers Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox on your computer.

• How do I use the web clipper?

It's very simple! When you are on a web page you want to add to your account, click the web clipper and choose directly whether you want to place it in your dropzone, in a new collection or an existing collection.

• How do I install the web clipper?

To install the web clipper, open the "My Account" menu and click on "web clipper", then follow the instructions. You can also click on the "collecting tools" buttons and choose the "web clipper". Your browser may display warning messages. You can safely ignore them: the web clipper is completely reliable.

• I cannot install the extension on my iPad / iPhone, what's happening?

On iOS 8 the extension is a button located in the Share menu. You have to enable the extension from the app to use it. On iOS 7 and previous iOS version, the extension is a bookmarklet "Pearltrees" placed in the bookmarks bar in Safari.
If after installation you do not find it in Safari, here are some things to check :
  • Has the bookmarklet been saved in the bookmarks bar or another folder of bookmarks?
  • Is the bookmarks bar in Safari visible?
  • Is javascript enabled?
  • Are cookies allowed?
You can check these items by going to the settings of Safari, tapping the "Settings" icon on your device. If the problem isn't solved after that, send us an email to participation@pearltrees.net for more information.

• I share a lot of links on Facebook and Twitter, how do I add them to my account?

Pearltrees lets you keep what you share on Twitter and Facebook.

• How do I automatically publish items I add to my collection to Twitter and Facebook?

Pearltrees lets you publish your latest uploads on Twitter and Facebook to share with your friends and subscribers. To do this, open the menu "My Account", then "Social" and click the "Connect Facebook / Twitter" button. Then select Facebook or Twitter and check "Post automatically your new items on Facebook" or "Post automatically your best collections on Twitter."
Just add items to your account and the contents and collections will be posted to Facebook and / or tweeted. Your new collections will be published once they reach five elements, updates will also be broadcasted every ten new additions.
To avoid overwhelming your subscribers, you can control the pace of your tweets by selecting the interval at which they are sent.

• How can I edit web pages that I collect?

Advanced or Professional Pearltrees premium plan subscribers, you can edit the web pages you collect. You can retrieve quotes, annotate, re-arrange content, etc. To do this, open the item you want to edit, click the "Edit" button and select "Modify".

Organize everything

• I have a lot of content in my account, how do I organize it?

Pearltrees is THE place to organize everything you’re interested in. First, you create collection in which you can add items. You can create as many folders and sub-folders you want. Then you can order items by moving them with a simple drag-and-drop. You can augment your collections by shaping their layout and gathering the items in groups & sections. You can insert texts the way you want, giving you even more ways to organize yourself. If you need to move an item to another collection from the collection in which it is located, you can do so through a Drag and Drop to your list of collections found in the "My Account" menu. Finally, do not hesitate to create collections within your existing collections to organize your items more precisely: they will be easier to find and share!

• What will happen if I move a private collection into a public collection?

If you decide to move a private collection into a public collection, it will remain private. However, if you wish, you can make it public by clicking the "Share" button and then "Make public". Everything in it, except private teams, will be public.

• How many items can I have in my account?

In Pearltrees, you can organize everything the way you want. For example, the number of items you can organize depends on the nature of these elements. Files or images require more storage space than web pages. By default you get 1GB of storage. If you are a premium member, you can select plans that include 10GB, 100GB or 1TB.

• How can an element or collection be located in several places in my account?

An element can have its place in several locations in your account. For example, the trailer of your favorite movie can be in your collection "My favorite movies" and your "Science Fiction" collection. To do this, simply duplicate the item:
Open the item, click the "Edit" button and click "Duplicate". On mobile and tablet, you simply open the item, click "Move" and then press "Duplicate".
When an item or a collection is placed in several collections, it creates connections between these collections and improves the relevance of your interest graph.

• How do I personalize my collections?

Each collection can be customized to be unique and recognizable at a glance.

• How do I customize the image of my collection?

Customize the image of each collection to make it recognizable at a glance. To customize the image for one of your collections, open it and click the "Edit" icon right next to the name of the collection.

Please note: the image size must be less than 3.5 MB.

• What is an editorial?

An editorial is a short description of a collection. For a single collection, the introduction can describe the collection to give visitors the keys to understand its meaning. For a team collection, the editorial also allows the founder to explain to everyone what he expects from the team.

• What is the dropzone?

The dropzone is where you can store items before organizing your account. Only you have access to your dropzone. You can use it to temporarily store the web pages you add with the web clipper, store your files while organizing or the items you find interesting in other contributors collections you visit.

Explore your communities of interest

• How do I discover other collections around my interests?

With Pearltrees, you can discover collections around your interests. There are several ways to do this:
  • "My interests": You can find items and collections around your interests with the "My interests" button. You can then explore collections around your interests which have recently been updated by other community members.
  • "My Network": The button "My Network" allows you to see all the activity on your network. You will find the latest items added by the members you are connected to, the elements added to the collections of whom you follow the activity, the comments left on your content, your private messages or your team demands.
  • "Additions": You can see where each of your collections and each of your items has been added by other Pearltrees members. To do this, open the collection or item and click "additions ". You can see a list of all the collections in which your items or collections were added.
  • "Related collections": In each collection, you can click on the "related collections" button to see other algorithmically related collections. Related collections are determined based upon elements they have in common with each other.
  • "Search": You can use research to discover collections related to a specific topic. Search uses the title and the introduction of a collection, and the title of each of the collections. To search from your computer or iPad, simply click on the magnifying glass in the top right. From Mobile, open the "My Account" menu and click "search".

• What is an addition?

When an item or a collection is shown as an "Add", this means a fellow member of Pearltrees has added it to another collection. You can see the list of these additions by clicking on "Additions" at the top of the collection, or within the window of the item.
You can then click the name of the collection in which it was added to explore the collection.

• How does the "Related collections" button work?

The "Related collections" button located at the top of each collection lets you discover other collections close to the one you are viewing. Related collections are determined based upon the commonality of the content within our interest graph.

• How does search work?

Search offers three options:
  • You can search on for a collection on a topic
  • You can find a collection directly within your account
  • You can find another contributor.
The search uses the title and introduction of collections, as well as the title of their components.

• How does search work?

Search provides you with three options:
  • You can search for a specific topic and explore the collections that are most closely related to this topic.
  • You can search for a collection within your own account.
  • You can search directly for another contributor by name.
Search results are based on the title and editorial of a collection as well as the titles of the pearls.

• I found an interesting collection in the account of another contributor, what can I do?

When you find a collection you like, you can add it to your account. This allows you to monitor its activity: you will see the new items that are added by clicking the "My Network" button, and will be notified when other contributors leave comments.  It is very simple to add a collection to your account: open it and click the "Add" button that is located next to his name button. If you use Pearltrees on your computer, you can also add the collection directly to your account by dragging it into any collection within the list of your collections. You can find your list of collections within the "My Account" menu.
If you wish, you can also organize this collection with its creator. If you wish to collaborate with someone on a topic, send a request to team with him or her, by clicking on "Add" at the top of the collection and check the "Team-up" option in the opening window.
Once in the team, you can organize the collection together. All team members can add items and change the organization. Do not forget to read the editorial of the collection before you start, and do not hesitate to contact your new teammate[s] through private messages.

Collaborate and share

• What is a team?

A team is a group of people who organize a collection of common interest together.
In a team, everyone can participate in the organization of the collection, adding new elements and organizing the collection. Private messages allow members to discuss among themselves and decide what they want to do. In a team, everyone is able to accept new members unless the request has been  already denied.
The team founder enjoys several additional benefits:
  • Founders can write the editorial of the team.
  • Founders can freeze the rights of a contributor who would not play the game.
  • Only a Founder can create a sub-team or turn one of the collections into a team.

• Why team-up?

Teaming-up enables you to extend your account through the community.
When you are part of a team, you can:
  • Contribute to enrich the collection by adding elements and organizing them
  • Accept applications into your teams that come from other Pearltrees members or invite new teammates yourself
  • Communicate with other team members through private messages
  • Go to the history of the team and recover adverse changes.

• How do I team-up with someone on one of their collections?

You can send a request to another member of Pearltrees to contribute to the enrichment of one of his collections.
To do this, open the collection that interests you and click "Add" at the top of the collection, then check the "Team-up" option in the opening window. Just after you make the request, remember to place this collection into your account to validate the application to the team. Once your application is accepted, you can participate in the organization of the collection.

• I would like to invite someone to team-up with me, how do I do?

You can invite someone to partner with you and enrich your collection. Open the collection that interests you and click on the "Team-up" button at the top of the collection. You can choose from your connections opening in the window or the "Add connections" option. You can only invite people you are connected to, to team-up with you: to add connections, go to the home page of a pearltrees member and click the "Add connections" button at the top of the account.

• How do I create a private team?

You can organize a collection with people while keeping this collection private from the community. To do this, simply become a premium member and create a private team. To set up a private team, create a private collection, then invite the people you want to collaborate with you in the team. Attention:  only other premium members can join a private team.
Private teams operate just like public teams, but are not visible to the public. They can only be seen or organized by their members.

• As a Founder, what control do I retain over the team[s] I have founded?

The founder of a team retains these specific rights:
  • You can write the editorial to provide an introduction to the team.
  • You can freeze the rights of a contributor who is acting inappropriately.

• What if a member of my team has deleted an item I wanted to keep?

In a team, everyone can add or remove items. In case of error, the history allows you to easily recover a deleted item. To access it, open the team, click on "manage my team" and then on "View History".

• Can I communicate with my team mates?

Team members can communicate with each other through private messages. They are visible only to team members. They are accessible from the "Manage my team" button. Team members can also communicate privately with other members individually, thanks to private messages.

• Can I exclude a member of my team?

Yes, if you are the founder of the team. You can freeze the rights of a member of the team who is acting inappropriately. Simply click on "Manage my team" then "Freeze a member."

• I cannot send private messages to everyone, why?

You cannot send private messages to contributors with whom you are not connected. To be connected to a contributor, you must either identify this by importing your address book or click "Add to my connections" on another member account. Furthermore, you are connected with all your team members by default.

• How do I find people on Pearltrees?

Add connections in Pearltrees to discuss your interests and enrich your collections together. Simply click on "Add connections" in the menu "My Account".

• I would like to share one of my collections with people who are not on Pearltrees?

Collections are open to everyone. Pearltrees members can add them. You can also share them via email, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and other social networks.
If you use Pearltrees from your computer, you can also embed a collection onto your blog or simply copy the permalink to share it however you want. These two options are accessible from the "Share" button on each collection.

• Can I share a private collection?

If you'd like, you can send an invitation to see one of your private collection. To do this, click the "Share" button in the detail window of the collection you want to share: a key will be generated that will give access to your private collection for one month.
The people with whom you have shared a private collection can view it and leave comments, but they can't pick up any of the pearls.

• How do I become a premium member?

To become a premium member, simply click on the button "Go premium" at the bottom left and choose the package that suits you.

• Can I buy several premium packages at once?

Yes, it is possible. Cick on "Go premium" in the interface, then choose "Group plans" on the top right of the page. You can then buy more premium packages you can assign to people you want.

• How do I protect my account?

If you share your mobile device with other people, you can set a PIN code to prevent someone else from using your Pearltrees account.
For this, you just need to become a premium member, then set a PIN from the "My Account" menu.

• I lost my password: how to recover it?

To retrieve your password, please visit www.pearltrees.com and click "Log-in". In the field "Password", click "lost password?" link and enter your email address. You will receive an email that lets you recover your password. Attention, we may be considered as spam. If you do not receive anything in the minutes following your application, remember to look in your spam folder.

• How do I change my username?

To change your username, please visit www.pearltrees.com from your computer. Open the "My Account" menu then click "Settings" and "Account". Don't forget to save.

• I receive too many emails from Pearltrees, what can I do?

You can choose exactly how often and what kind of emails you want to get from Pearltrees. To do this, go to the "Settings" menu of the "My Account" and "Notifications". Save the changes.

• Can I import my favorites?

Yes, you can import all your favorites into your Pearltrees account. To do this, click the "Import Favorites" sub-menu in the "My Account" menu (available only from a computer) and select the service from which you want to import your favorites from: Chrome, Firefox, Diigo, etc.

• How do I manage my Premium account?

You can manage your account (billing history, extending your premium membership, premium account cancellation, etc.) by clicking on the "Premium" button at the bottom left of your screen. To access this menu, you must access your account from a computer.

• How do I switch from monthly to annual payment plans for my premium account?

You can change from monthly to annual payment plan for your premium account. By doing so, you will get 2 months free!
Here are the few steps you need to follow:
  • Log on to your account at www.pearltrees.com (from a computer only).
  • Go to the "Premium" menu, and click "Buy a year now."

• Can I get a refund if I am not satisfied with my premium account?

When possible, Pearltrees will issue a pro-rated amount based upon the amount of time left on your current subscription, if you are not completely satisfied with your premium account. Refunds are made according to the conditions of each service payment.
  • "in- app" via iTunes payments can not be refunded.
  • Payments via PayPal can only be refunded within 60 days of purchase
  • Payments via credit card or American Express can only be refunded within 6 months of purchase.

Note that only annual subscriptions can be reimbursed. The first three months cannot be refunded, and the two months offer correspond to the last two months of the period. If you choose a monthly subscription, no refund is possible in case of a cancellation. However, the subscription will be suspended at the end of the subscribed month.

• I no longer want to be a premium member, how do I cancel?

If you wish to, you can cancel your membership and no longer be a premium member.
Here is the procedure:
  • Log on to your account at www.pearltrees.com (accessible from a computer only)
  • Go to the "Upgrade Now" menu and click "Unsubscribe"

• What will happen if I cancel my premium membership?

A premium account allows you to have all Pearltrees just for you. Once your subscription ends, your account will be automatically transformed into a standard account. You will no longer be able to change the private areas of your account and will lose the benefits reserved for premium members.
Of course, you can always become a premium member again any time. You will once again be able to add to and organize your private collections as well as enjoy all the other benefits specific to the premium plan you have selected.

• I do not want people to add the body of my web site. What can I do?

If you do not want people to add the body of your website in their collections, copy the tag below and paste it in the header of the HTML so that it applies to the whole page.

Technologies

• Do I own my data?

Every user owns their data in Pearltrees. That is why it is possible to export the account in a W3C-compliant RDF format. You can also export your report to an HTML format. To do this, click on "Export" in the settings menu. Export is only accessible from a computer.

• What is Pearltrees privacy policy?

Confidentiality and security of your personal information is a priority for Pearltrees. We do not keep any record of your particular browsing unless you choose to register voluntarily with the web clipper. In addition, all private data related to your identification (such as email addresses) are never made public. For more information, please read the terms of use here.

• What has happened to the "tree-shape" visualization ?

Before the 2.0 version, Pearltrees accounts were displayed with a "tree-shape" visualization. This format has been replaced by the "dynamic grid" on May 23rd, 2014 and discontinued 6 month later. We've opensourced the key elements of our visualization code on Pearltrees' Github page for all the people interested in this work. www.github.com/pearltrees

• Will Pearltrees release an API?

Not yet but there will definitely be one available in the future!

• Is Pearltrees available on mobile?
