WIRED + Marriott Top Talent, WIRED Gifts – Culturazzi Collective Remix. Art, Tech *I was compensated for this post. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.* WIRED + Marriott hosted the last of the 2012 #Culturazzi Series events at the #WIREDstore in New York City last week. For this final event of the year, Marriott brought together a number of key players from the art, tech, music, and travel communities and hosted an entertaining night of exquisite innovation, music, and art. The event, aptly named Collective Remix, featured a display showcasing Todd McClellan’s unique style of photography as well as LEGO sculptures from brick artist Nathan Sawaya. During our tour of the WIRED pop-up store, I had an opportunity to ask store manager, Noah Norman, about all the unique, whimsical gift items available there. During the event, I tweeted about several of my favorite items to give the audience a helping hand in their quest for that perfect Christmas gift.

Big Air Package is the latest project from artist Christo installed at the Gasometer Oberhausen in Germany, a facility that still holds the record as the largest disc-type gas holder in Europe that was converted into an exhibition hall in the 1990s.

Big Air Package is the largest ever inflated envelope without aid of a skeleton (Gasometer Oberhausen bills it as “the largest indoor sculpture in history”) and reaches 90 meters high, with a diameter of 50 meters and a volume of 177,000 cubic meters. The work was conceived in 2010 and is Christo’s first major work after the passing of his wife and artistic partner Jeanne-Claude in 2009. Via the official press release: Big Air Package, Project for Gasometer Oberhausen, Germany was conceived in 2010 by Christo and will be on view from March 16 to December 30, 2013. The sculpture, which is installed inside the former gas tank, was made from 20,350 square meters of semitransparent polyester fabric and 4,500 meters of rope. My advice for any city that wants to give its downtown area an instant upgrade and have a lot of fun in the process – hold a street painting festival like Lake Worth, Florida does every year.

Just block off a street, offer some cool prizes for the best creations, and then let a bunch of artist do their thing. Thanks to my friend and amateur photographer, Beth Angell, I have a nice collection of photos that show what happens when artists let their imaginations go wild. These pics are from Lake Worth’s street painting festival held in February, 2012, and the artwork is amazing. My favorites are the works featuring pop culture characters such as Michael Corleone from the film, The Godfather, but they’re all outstanding works of art. Cut-Away Leaf Art. Doesn't that first image look like an oil painting? Artists are becoming more and more inventive with their choice of canvas. Lorenzo Duran's picks the perfect leaf and then washes, dries, molds and gently cuts away at it until he makes beautiful art. It's an interesting technique based on paper-cutting in China, Japan, Germany and Switzerland. Incredible! Lorenzo Durán's website via [Illusion] Picasso Style Superheroes. What’s better than Picasso-inspired superheroes? Design company WonderBros made these awesome superheroes in the style of famous painter Pablo Picasso. They've even said that these “artworks are so awesome it will melt your face off.” WonderBros has taken pop culture icons and made them even more memorable by giving them a retro artistic look. Love! Photographing reflections can be extremely rewarding and produce stunning results, but sometimes achieving those dramatic shots can be harder than first thought. Today I'll be highlighting a few quick tips for dealing with reflections, and helping you on your way to taking some breathtaking photographs!

Step 1. The Basics Reflections come in many different forms and guises, varying from dramatic landscape shots to detailed macro compositions, but there are a few fundamental techniques which will help you achieve better results when dealing with reflections. With regards to depth of field, try to select a high f-number such as f/11 or higher, this will help level out the subjects of the shot so the eye perceives them in closer relation, enhancing the reflection effect.

Focus depends a lot on the distance between the subject and the reflection. Finally, think about the angle of the light and how it affect the reflection. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. An Introduction to Indoor and Studio Flash Photography. Today we're going to delve into one of the most important aspects of photography - lighting. We'll begin with a background as to why lighting is so important, discuss the traditional three-light setup, and then move on to illustrate a number of different lighting techniques (and the associated results)! Introduction In photography there are two types of light; hard or harsh light, and soft or diffused light. Hard light casts deep sharp shadows with well-defined edges, such as the case in high mid-day sun. Soft light casts softer shadows with edges less defined, such as the case on an overcast day. That’s because the light is bounced and diffused in different directions and is spilling into the shadows, so the size of the light becomes much larger.

The effective size of the light depends on two factors: The actual physical size of the light. The light's position in relation to the subject. The closer the light is to the subject, the larger the effective size and the softer it is. Side Bounce.
