{How-to} Make Curly Ribbon Hair Bows

Regardless of the fact that I already own 5 times the amount ribbon any one person should own, I suddenly felt the need to buy more! I found an adorable ribbon with rainbows on it, and knew I “needed” to buy it for a rainbow themed birthday I’m planning for a little girl turning one in June. I thought the rainbow ribbon would be the perfect base for some pretty hair bows. I’ve seen hair bows made with ribbon that is in beautiful ringlets, but I’ve never made them. I thought this would be the perfect chance to give it a try.

The process was quite easy, and I was really happy with the results. Step 1- Select the ribbon you plan to use (I only used grosgrain ribbons, since that’s what I’ve seen used before.

Every artist needs primary source material. Primary source material is original images, sketches, drawings and photographs that the artist herself has generated without the aid of any outside sources. In other words, the shot you snapped of light reflecting off water, the sketch you made of your kitty, or the watercolor landscape you painted a few years ago is your primary source material. Finding PSM becomes challenging (and often disheartening) if you're an artist like me who doesn't draw.

That very fact alone nearly stopped me dead in my tracks years ago, when the desire for making art began to bubble inside me in earnest. So how does an artist who can't, don't, or won't draw get original imagery into their art? Let's get to it. Pinhole Press. A birthday party in a box is my fave (round 2) I thought it was time to update the birthday in a box since the birthday season in my family is quickly approaching.

a birthday party in a box is my fave (round 2)

I started with a box with one of those magnetized lids. It originally had the word Accessorize! On the front with flourishes and a cheesy illustration of a pearl necklace, high heels and clutch. (I know you’re wondering why I would cover that up since it sounds purely awesome. Don’t worry, I bought a second one to display on my non-existant coffee table.) Pinhole Press. Motherhood Mondays: Baby Names & Faces Book

You make one with photos of your child's favorite people. My mom made us one as a gift, and it has become Toby's favorite bedtime story. Since our relatives live around the country, this book helps Toby remember them between visits (and happily recognize them when he sees them again), and I love that the book helps him learn words and names, and show him that he's part of a family that cares about him. Bravo, Pinhole Press! Make a big one here, and a mini one here.
