המשטח מהווה את הבסיס ליחידת מוצרים לשינוע, הנערמים על המשטח באופן מסודר ומחוברים אליו בעזרת עטיפת פלסטיק חזק, או באמצעי אחר. השימוש במכולות לשינוע סחורות העלה את השימוש במשטחים, זאת כיוון שרצפתה של המכולה שטוחה ונקייה ממכשולים ומאפשרת העמסה יעילה של משטחי סחורות. על רוב המשטחים ניתן להעמיס בקלות סחורות במשקל של טון אחד. סידור סחורות על גבי משטחים מקל במידה ניכרת על שינוע סחורות כבדות. ארגונים העושים שימוש במשטחים תקניים יכולים להפחית במידה ניכרת בהוצאות השינוע והאיכסון. השרשת עצי בוסתן ישירות בשטח. בחורף האחרון ייחרנו תאנים רימונים וגפנים ממגוון רב של מקורות, במיוחד מעצים הגדלים ומניבים בתנאי בעל בסטף.

Filling the Benetton bridge with color. A couple of months ago we were very pleased to present you a great project that Benetton Chile and the girls from Estanpintando∆ did in a forgotten corner of Santiago.
The idea was to bring color and joy to the people of the city by intervening with art in some heavily traveled streets. We were not sure what would happen, what would people think of it, or how they would react. Luckily, when the “Benetton Mural” was done, we received really nice compliments, and even gratitude! United Blogs of Benetton. Estanpintando in Spanish means literally “they are painting”, and that’s exactly what Coni Larenas and Trini Guzmán are doing. They are BFF from college, and since that time they always wanted to do something together but didn’t know what, until an extraordinary opportunity came: they were asked to paint the walls of the Pediatric Emergency Center of the Padre Hurtado Hospital. The project’s purpose was to create a friendly environment for the kids , to distract them from the pain, making the wait easier.
So Coni and Trini created for them a surrealist jungle, full of colors and amazing animals , just like a dream. This experience was so revealing that they decided to take a leap, and see if someone else would be interested in their murals. Some months later, they were painting offices, houses, restaurants… It turned out that their passion became their work. Now the founders of the project, Dan Barasch and James Ramsey, have turned to Kickstarter, not only to raise funds, but to prove to local government that the public is serious about making the project a reality. While much of that collaboration is diffuse, spread out across a multitude of websites, blogs, and social networking sites, a new platform designed by Ideo.org (the design consultancy's nonprofit arm) and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation seeks to bring tips, ideas, and strategies together into one toolkit and discussion platform for people fighting poverty around the world. The effort is called HCD Connect, and it's designed to open up the field of human-centered design—a technique that uses close listening, empathy, and observation to design solutions for people in extreme poverty—to anyone who needs it.

Their latest project, helmed by partners Juli Capella and Miguel Garcia, reimagines and reinvents a unsightly wall left behind from a former building demolition. Better Block: Bottom-Up Urban Reboot In a Single Weekend. It's remarkable what some people can accomplish in a single weekend. While others spend those days catching up on lost sleep or exploring their city with friends, Texas-based nonprofit The Better Block uses that time to rally communities to rethink their neighborhoods. Since its inception in 2010 , the project has built temporary dog parks, pop-up shops, urban forests, cafes, and bike lanes.
