Clean up the dirtiest thing on the internet. Every day, we use the Internet to stay connected to our friends and the things we care about.

Clean up the dirtiest thing on the internet

As the Internet spreads around the world, it needs huge amounts of electricity, and we get to decide if that electricity should come from clean energy, like the wind turbines and solar panels we are seeing more every day. The smartest companies in the world have made a decision to embrace the future: Google and Facebook are plugging their Internet infrastructure into the wind and sun, and now Apple is doing the same thanks to people like you who asked them to embrace clean power!

If other companies follow them, then the growing Internet help clean energy grow faster too, creating a brighter future for everyone. Unfortunately, other Internet companies are still stuck in the past: Microsoft and Amazon still get their power from coal power, a 19th-century fuel that causes climate change. The Guerrilla Guide to Interviewing (version 3.0) By Joel Spolsky Wednesday, October 25, 2006 A motley gang of anarchists, free-love advocates, and banana-rights agitators have hijacked The Love Boat out of Puerto Vallarta and are threatening to sink it in 7 days with all 616 passengers and 327 crew members unless their demands are met.

The demand? A million dollars in small unmarked bills, and a GPL implementation of WATFIV, that is, the esteemed Waterloo Fortran IV compiler. (It’s surprising how few things the free-love people can find to agree on with the banana-rights people.) As chief programmer of the Festival Cruise programming staff, you’ve got to decide if you can deliver a Fortran compiler from scratch in seven days. Can you do it? “Well, I suppose, it depends,” you say. On what? “Um, will my team be able to use UML-generating tools?” Does that really matter? “I guess not.” OK, so, what does it depend on?

“Will we have 19 inch monitors? Again, does this matter? “I guess not. Right. “Who are they?” Does that matter? “Sure! Private vs. Public Cloud Computing. Cloud computing has found its way into many organizations as business leaders and IT departments look to capitalize on the many benefits that cloud offers. As your company considers moving all or part of its IT operation to the cloud, a key decision is whether to rely on public cloud, virtual private cloud, or a combination. Finalizing a cloud strategy must start with understanding your objectives and how they best align with the value each offering can provide.

The public cloud can be characterized by IT resources delivered via the Internet using a standardized, self-service, pay-per-use methodology. Public clouds are designed to provide compute resources virtually at will - similar to that of a utility. Public clouds are highly standardized, allow limited customization, and their respective resources can be oversubscribed and massively shared. Virtual private clouds offer scalable compute resources similar to that of public clouds, but in a more controlled environment. Next time you’re at a festival, take a look around and know that you are part of something ancient.

10 Festivals that Can Change Your Life

Whether swaying to music in a sea of dancing bodies, riding camels in India, wearing a loincloth in Japan or shooting strangers with squirt guns full of wine in Spain, participation in festivals has long been a part of the human experience. With roots in religious celebrations, festivals were originally, the ultimate peer-to-peer gatherings. In her book Dancing in the Streets: A History of Collective Joy, Barbara Ehrenreich writes, “Once, people could rely on official church services as occasions for dancing and perhaps drinking and other forms of carrying on. As the services became more disciplined and orderly, people had to create their own festive occasions outside of church property and official times of worship.” Historically, festivals were not something that people went to, they were something that people created.
