Wuala - The social online storage

There is a simple and quick possibility to turn unused storage of your linux-based home- or nas-server into Wuala online storage. The only thing you have to do is to run Wuala from the command line and configure it to trade your unused gigabytes. First of all you need a Debian-based linux server like Ubuntu server, which is connected to the internet. You must have rights to access this server (via ssh or directly), to add users and to configure portforwarding on your router if it isn't fully UPnP-enabled. To run Wuala you have to install the following packages: wget, screen and of course sun-java6-jre: user@server:~$ sudo apt-get install wget screen sun-java6-jre Add a new user 'wuala' and set up a password for it: user@server:~$ sudo adduser wuala Terminate your current session and log in with the new user 'wuala'.

OS X Wuala without GUI

This is easy to do in the terminal, but I know some very few Apple user do not like to work in the terminal. I have editet the starter to run Wuala without gui and Dockicon, but with fuse. This is no official Wuala Application!
http://fak3r.com/2009/09/14/howto-build-your-own-open-source-dropbox-clone/ UPDATE #4 It’s 2012, and this project is still alive, although I haven’t worked on lipsync as much as I should. I want to, and have new ideas to implement and try out in the next few months. The two way sharing is a bit hacky, and I don’t like it, the installer creates a cronjob : that checks for server changes to sync back every minute – and it tries to avoid conflicts by not running if a sync the other way is happening . Yes, if you’re using 2 computers at once it could get confused, but so far, it’s pretty good – but something I want to improve.
