Bio. Texas to Obama's EPA: Leave us alone. Abbott NEW ORLEANS (Legal Newsline) – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to reject a regulatory program the state put in place after submitting it for approval 14 years ago. Abbott filed his challenge with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Monday. It says the EPA was wrong to disapprove the state’s qualified facilities program, which allows factories to bypass certain parts of the regulatory process if changes they are proposing do not result in an increase in emissions.

In March, the EPA rejected the program, which was created in 1995 by the Texas Legislature. “By rejecting Texas’ qualified facilities program, the EPA has unilaterally declared that program is not in compliance with federal law,” a release from Abbott’s office says. Texas Gov. Abbott said part of the Clean Air Act says air pollution prevention is “the primary responsibility of the states and local governments.” Texans for Greg Abbott. Sony BMG XCP audio CD player The Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal of 2005–2007 concerns deceptive, illegal, and potentially harmful copy protection measures implemented by Sony BMG on about 22 million CDs. When inserted into a computer, the CDs installed one of two pieces of software which provided a form of digital rights management (DRM) by modifying the operating system to interfere with CD copying. Neither program could easily be uninstalled, and they created vulnerabilities that were exploited by unrelated malware. Sony claims this was unintentional. One of the programs installed even if the user refused its EULA, and it "phoned home" with reports on the user's private listening habits; the other was not mentioned in the EULA at all, contained code from several pieces of open-source software in an apparent infringement of copyright, and configured the operating system to hide the software's existence, leading to both programs being classified as rootkits.

Background[edit] Texas Queries E-Book Publishers on Pricing. Google Search Rankings Investigated By Texas Attorney General. SAN FRANCISCO — Google Inc.'s methods for recommending websites are being reviewed by Texas' attorney general in an investigation spurred by complaints that the company has abused its power as the Internet's dominant search engine. The antitrust inquiry disclosed by Google late Friday is just the latest sign of the intensifying scrutiny facing the company as it enters its adolescence. Since its inception in a Silicon Valley garage 12 years ago, Google has gone from a quirky startup to one of the world's most influential businesses with annual revenue approaching $30 billion.

A spokesman for Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott confirmed the investigation, but declined further comment. The review appears to be focused on whether Google is manipulating its search results to stifle competition. That dominance means a website ranking high on the first page of Google's results will likely attract more traffic and generate more revenue, either from ads or merchandise sales.
