Emory conference on virtual worlds. Survey for Emory's Virtual Worlds Conference by Robert Bloomfield on January 30, 2008 1. QUESTIONS THAT MATTER: What research questions or inquiries are important with regard to studying virtual worlds in the next several years (think 2008-2015)? I answer this question from several directions. First, what research questions can virtual worlds help us answer? Virtual worlds are particularly valuable for studying economic and regulatory issues. The second direction is to consider what we need to know about virtual worlds in order to conduct more effective research on other topics (like economics, as described above). A third direction is to study how for-profit, not-for-profit and governmental enterprises are using and should use virtual worlds for education, simulation, research, outreach, marketing and other uses?

Welcome to MetaMeets.com. Virtual Worlds - Best Practices in Education. Science and virtual worlds, a conference and articles. Has your life been deeply shaped by Tolkien, Dungeons & Dragons, Final Fantasy, and/or Conan the Barbarian? Were you, like me, fascinated by Science's 27 July 2007 cover article about online worlds as natural laboratories for scientific research? And what are you doing 3 weeks from now? If the answers to those questions are Yes, Yes, and “Taking my orc shaman into Blackfathom Deeps to kill naga,” then I hereby invite you to take part in a unique event: Convergence of the Real and the Virtual: The First Scientific Conference in the World of Warcraft 9-11 May This will not be your typical conference.

Sure, there will be sessions devoted to various research topics involving virtual worlds, panel discussions, social activities, and those conference goody bags that we've all come to love. If that sounds scary, complex, weird, geeky, well… welcome to the future. I look forward to meeting you there. Best wishes from Azeroth, The Gonzo Scientist.
