Unido. At. Power.com - All your friends in just one place. The LinkedIn Blog Blog Archive Here’s how LinkedIn changed the way we did business. [Ed. note:This is a guest post from Kathy Steele, Vice President of an integrated marketing firm that credits networking as the key to their growth, and who discovered how vital social media sites like LinkedIn have become to their business process and success] I have to admit for a number of years I was under-utilizing the resources on LinkedIn. Recently our company has joined the conversation by embracing social media as part of our integrated marketing plan, and now we work with our clients to establish Web 2.0 strategies. We use LinkedIn to leverage the experience of our group members, vet ideas, create new connections and re-establish relationships to increase sales and publicize the achievements of our clients and ourselves.

We have even found that in our sales process, sending an InMail has garnered a much higher response rate than using email or phone contact. More recently, we’ve also found ourselves on the speaking circuit more often thanks to a LinkedIn Poll. Las once claves de Fogel para ser un buen periodista web. Facebook Helps Brands and Personalities Transform Visitors into Fans | PR2.0. InShare0 Facebook Connect is connecting people across the social graph to fresh content and furthermore it’s channeling outside Web events into individual lifestreams. Essentially, Facebook is solidifying its position as not only your primary social network, it’s also a emerging as a central hub for your attention, updates, news, promotion, and enlightenment. Now, Facebook is extending its network to the World Wide Web, allowing brands and personalities who have or will host Fan Pages to embed a widget version of the page directly into Web sites, other social networks, social networks, and blogs.

This builds a bridge between the 200 million strong Facebook network and outside visitors to strategically concentrate on promotion and community building. For example, here’s a sample widget for the Facebook Fan Page for my new book with Deirdre Breakenridge, “Putting the Public Back in Public Relations.” Here are a few examples of the Widget in action: Lance Armstrong BlackBerry World Wildlife Fund. 5 Ideas to Transform Newspaper Sites. I sometimes wonder whether we are held captive by old school thinking. At our newspapers at Mediafin, we are in the process of integrating web operations with the print publication, a move which I fully endorse. There’s one major risk to this: that we might end up seeing the web as just another way to distribute newspaper articles rather than a radically new opportunity.

People who have spent years writing for print newspapers could easily fall victim to the horseless carriage syndrome — the belief that they can continue to apply the same thinking that they applied to an old technology to a new, fundamentally different one. At the turn of the century, many saw the automobile as a new variation on the horse-and-carriage, not realizing that the car was in many ways very different. Just as cars are fundamentally different from horseless carriages, or cinema is fundamentally different from theater, the web is fundamentally different from newspapers. State of the Twittersphere in El Salvador – We need to lead the way La Banda 2 Cero. Over the past months, Twitter has experienced explosive growth in many countries of the world, attracting companies, politicians, celebrities and people from different backgrounds and age.

In El Salvador many people including media, journalists, companies and organizations have started to hear, talk and even join the conversation about Twitter, (hey my wife is already using her Twitter account!) So I thought it was time to research and write about the country’s State of the Twittersphere, First I went around looking for Twitter data in the region and stumbled upon the most popular Twitter users By country in Central America according to Twittercounter.com (Ranked by followers count and refreshed up to July 4, 2009. The LinkedIn Blog Blog Archive Dreams do come true despite the layoff notice! I am an entrepreneur who was always afraid to quit my day job.

I sold rock concert T-shirts in college and even after I began work in the Silicon Valley, I started selling high-end fountain pens from Realpens.com and writing articles for industry magazines. These were little more than hobbies until my first pink slip showed up, after I’d spent nearly 29 years in the industry. After exiting the building and taking stock, it was obvious that networking was the answer. The scuttlebutt was that few people were being hired off the street and recommendations to managers were worth their weight in gold. Using LinkedIn’s advanced search feature, I reached out to old friends and co-workers for references but instead discovered that many of them were independent consultants and actually making a living at it.

While still searching for a full-time job, I began the work to become a trusted adviser on my favorite topic – protecting businesses and people when something goes wrong. Seth's Blog: Malcolm is wrong. I've never written those three words before, but he's never disagreed with Chris Anderson before, so there you go. Free is the name of Chris's new book, and it's going to be wildly misunderstood and widely argued about.

The first argument that makes no sense is, "should we want free to be the future? " Who cares if we want it? It is. The second argument that makes no sense is, "how will this new business model support the world as we know it today? " Who cares if it does? As I see 'free', there are two forces at work: In an attention economy (like this one), marketers struggle for attention and if you don't have it, you lose. Second, in a digital economy with lots of players and lower barriers to entry, it's quite natural that the price will be lowered until it meets the incremental cost of making one more unit. Conde Nast (publisher of the Wired (Chris's magazine) and yes, the New Yorker (Malcolm's magazine)), is going to go out of business long before you get sick, never mind die.

And as paranoid as people think they are about germs these days, with their antibacterial lotions and careful hand-washing after even briefly touching their genitals, the truth is most of us still have no freaking idea where we're picking up these germs.

But if you carried around a microscope everywhere you went, there are a whole lot of everyday things you'd be a lot more hesitant to rub all over your hands. The most unpleasant place most of us will visit this week is a nice, fragrant, poorly-maintained public restroom. Now, it's no surprise to find the floor and piss-splattered toilet seat are crawling with germs (how many of you still haven't figured out how to flush the toilet with your foot?) Or it would be OK, if some of the soap wasn't also full of germs. Designed to kill. So Keep That in Mind When... ...some guy gives you a dirty look if you fail to wash your hands after just peeing. Gadgets.

Exclusive: Discussing the Future of Facebook with CEO Mark Zuckerberg. There’s a lot happening at Facebook these days. From advertising to payments, search to mobile, platform to privacy, Facebook has teams working on a spectrum of products to serve the company’s 200 million active users – 100 million of which log in every day – in the years ahead. Since Facebook was founded in 2004, it has repeatedly evolved to make it easier for people to share and consume information in trusted and more efficient ways.

Facebook has always focused on establishing real identity and user profiles, and that identity continues to be foundational for all of the company’s products and monetization plans today. In late 2006, Facebook created the now-famous News Feed, making it easier than ever for users to keep track of friends’ activity on the site. Facebook then launched the Facebook Platform in 2007, enabling thousands of developers to leverage Facebook’s data to create a new wave of web applications with deeper social context than had been possible before. Why? Microsoft Ad Portrays Bing As Economy's Savior -- InformationWeek.

Spot evokes controversial Willie Horton campaign to link Google with recession. Stealing themes from the world of political advertising, Microsoft on Wednesday rolled out a new television ad for its recently unveiled Bing search engine. The one-minute spot starts with dark, foreboding images of a failed economy -- foreclosure auctions, rising gas prices, unemployed workers, and the like -- and veiled references to rival Google. "While everyone was searching, there was bailing. While everyone was lost in the links, there was collapsing," the ad states. "We don't need queries and keywords if they bring about questions and confusion," it adds in apocalyptic tones. The ad then transitions to more optimistic themes and images and introduces Bing as a potential savior.

By visually and viscerally associating its rival with collapse and anarchy, Microsoft is borrowing tried-and-true techniques from political campaigning. Some credit the ad for derailing Dukakis' candidacy. More Insights. Google / Bing Comparison for. Redirecting...
