Think To get someone involved in your thinking ore in your doing, I think you have to be very specific in and of “your image of yourself” ore your would be image of yourself. This is even true when you get yourself involved in your own thinking and doing. Why? http://www.markpollard.net/10-things-about-trying/ I recently got put on a list. Always feels a bit weird, but deep down I dig it. It was for the inaugural Creative Sydney – 100 Creative Catalysts . I’m on there for “Bringing together Australia’s hip hop communities through Stealth “. Doing cultural stuff – entrepreneurial cultural stuff – can feel like a lonely pursuit. Good Ideas, The Four-Minute Version

I have to admit when the good folks at Riverhead mentioned that they were working on an animated video promoting Where Good Ideas Come From , I wasn't fully convinced it was going to be worth the effort. But the absolutely brilliant video they produced with Cognitive Media in the UK shows how wrong I was. It's genuinely worth watching multiple times, which is something I've certainly never said before about a book promo. Just four days after we released it, it's been viewed almost 100,000 times. My only concern is that people will buy the book after seeing the video and will be disappointed to find that, in fact, there are no turtles in the book itself. (But there's always the paperback!) http://www.stevenberlinjohnson.com/2010/09/good-ideas-the-four-minute-version.html

A Marketer's Guide To Behavioural Economics

Long before behavioral economics had a name, marketers were using it. Understanding exactly how small changes to the details of an offer can influence the way people react to it is crucial to unlocking significant value—often at very low cost. Yet despite marketing’s inadvertent leadership in using principles of behavioral economics, few companies use them in a systematic way. This article, we highlight four practical techniques that should be part of every marketer’s tool kit. Long before behavioral economics had a name, marketers were using it. “Three for the price of two” offers and extended-payment layaway plans became widespread because they worked—not because marketers had run scientific studies showing that people prefer a supposedly free incentive to an equivalent price discount or that people often behave irrationally when thinking about future consequences.

Creating value: An interactive tutorial - McKinsey Quarterly - Corporate Finance - Valuation

If investors and managers should have learned anything from the turbulence both in markets and in the real economy in recent years, it’s that there is no substitute for real value creation. Financial engineering, excessive leverage, the idea during inflated boom times that somehow the old rules of economics no longer apply—these are the misconceptions upon which the value of companies are eroded and entire economies become inefficient. Conversely, real value creation builds stronger companies, economies, and societies.
This October 10, 2010 is Powers of Ten day -- 10/10/10, a milestone on the design thinking calendar. It's named for the film Powers of Ten , made by Charles and Ray Eames in 1968. And for designers, it's an opportunity to both celebrate the Eames Office's groundbreaking film as well as a chance to recognize the power of scale in shaping our understanding of the world around us.

How to Apply Eames's Legendary "Powers of 10" to Real-life Problems | Co.Design

“The more I broaden my interpretation of what can be called a ritual, the more I find them, and find myself creating them in my life.” ~Lisa Weiner I was sitting with my therapist in the midst of college finals. It was one of our last sessions together before I would return home for the long summer vacation.
