15 Free Tools for Storing and Sharing Files

Since then, I've come across some more tools to add to that list. Here is my new list of file sharing tools for students and teachers. Using these tools can help you avoid having an email inbox that is overflowing with file attachments. The tools that I frequently use: I use Google Documents and Google Drive for nearly all of my document storage needs. The other tool that I frequently use for collecting, storing, and sharing files is Dropbox. DROPitTOme is a free service that works with Dropbox to allow people to upload files to your Dropbox account without giving them access to the contents of your Dropbox account. File Dropper is the file sharing tool that I have used longer than any of the tool on this list. Other file sharing tools that I have tried. File Stork is a tool that works with Dropbox and allows you to collect files in two ways.

If I had to define what a ‘Personal Learning Network’ is, I would keep it simple and broad: n. – the entire collection of people with whom you engage and exchange information, usually online. Personal Learning Networks, or PLNs, have been around forever. Originally, they were your family and friends, maybe other educators you worked with, but as the internet and web 2.0 tools have become nearly ubiquitous, PLNs can include tons of different communities – social networking sites like Facebook, blogs, Twitter, wikis, social bookmarking tools, LinkedIn, and so many more.

Basically, anyone that you interact with is apart of your PLN, whether they are social contacts, professional peers, or experts in their field. Process writing: mixing it up. As the name suggests, process writing is an approach to writing which focuses on the process rather than the end product.

The argument goes that, just as writers in the ‘real’ world go through a process of editing and revising what they write, so should our students. The typical structure for a process writing lesson might be: 1 Brainstorming ideas. 2 Plan the structure of the writing 3 Write first draft 4 Get feedback on first draft from teacher or peers (or self-evaluation) 5 Write second draft (and third if appropriate after feedback) I think there is a lot to be said for taking a process approach to writing: Feedback Generally speaking, whatever colour ink we use and whatever correction code we use, we often might as well have not bothered marking written work.

For most students, once something has been written and handed in, it’s over: out of sight, out of mind.
