“Chillout” music encompasses several different musical genres (downtempo, acid jazz, trip hop, house, lounge and electronica). The movement started as an alternative to the ecstasy filled clubs of London where revelers needed a place to cool off after heavy dancing. Clubs often allocated a “chillout room” for those who needed a break but still wanted to listen to music.
