I surprise myself (repeatedly) by how much I like Crystal Castles ‘s second album.

For the upbeat, prog-pop rhythms and Sting-like melody -- there's nothing light lyrically about "Somebody That I Used to Know", a devastatingly pointed and acerbic look back on a relationship gone bad from Belgian-born instrumentalist and songwriter Gotye . With support from fellow Aussie (and DC fave) Kimbra on vocal counterpoint, "Somebody" was a sizable hit Down Under -- and a great starting point for the uninitiated to Gotye's latest album Making Mirrors , finally making a stateside appearance January 31.
