http://flavorwire.com/254434/the-20-most-beautiful-bookstores-in-the-world [ Editor's note: In celebration of the holidays, we're counting down the top 12 Flavorwire features of 2012. This post, at #1, was originally published January 31. ] With Amazon slowly taking over the publishing world and bookstores closing left and right, things can sometimes seem a little grim for the brick and mortar booksellers of the world. After all, why would anyone leave the comfort of their couch to buy a book when with just a click of a button, they could have it delivered to their door? Well, here’s why: bookstores so beautiful they’re worth getting out of the house (or the country) to visit whether you need a new hardcover or not. We can’t overestimate the importance of bookstores — they’re community centers, places to browse and discover, and monuments to literature all at once — so we’ve put together a list of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, from Belgium to Japan to Slovakia.

B and I have lived in this house for over 3 1/2 years and during that time, we haven't done much to the house except move in some furniture and put some pictures on the walls.
May 14, 2010 A happy Home Tour Friday to you! Before we begin today, I need you to SIT DOWN and take several deep breaths. Because this is incredible. Friends, Kidtropolis has done it again. http://www.home-designing.com/2009/11/beautiful-french-country-house Presumably the workplace of an artist and the home of a creative soul, this beautiful French country house is a treat for those with a keen eye. Or those who enjoy the revitalizing mix of nature and the human mind. Cocooned in natural surroundings, this house has a rustic, pristine and a raw feel to it. Semi-clad in luxury, this French cottage is a dream home for many. With the option of working indoors and outdoors, the house inspires vision. A deliberate ancient touch is given to a few items that make the surreal feeling of ‘living in the years long forgotten’ very real.

The renovation of this 4 story townhouse in center Park Slope is one of the first projects by The Brooklyn Home Company. It’s a great example how cool could be combination of vintage and modern elements in the one interior. The main color theme in this interior is a combination of white and natural wood of different hues. It works very well and everything looks very cosy and livable. The home is flooded with natural light through double hung windows. The interior also features such interesting things as sculptures by Fitzhugh Karol, a lot of built-ins and custom work, rough wood shelves and doors, and so on.

Give your dining table a cheery face-lift with place mats. To start, gather fabric (heavier, "home decorating" weight, like the Amy Butler design shown here from amybutlerdesign.com , works best), pinking shears, and iron-on vinyl topping, which is available at most fabric stores. Cut fabric into 12" x 17" rectangles; iron. For each mat, cut two rectangles of the same size from the vinyl. Following package directions, iron a piece of vinyl onto each side of the place mat; use pinking shears to trim the edges of your mats. http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/decorating-ideas/diy-decorating-ideas#category1-1

this house was love at first foot in the door… Jamie Laubhan-Oliver and her husband Larry Oliver are two of the most talented people I’ve ever known. Jamie is an art director for DHome/DWeddings and Larry is a senior designer for Neiman Marcus . They are both art directors and spend much of their days orchestrating amazing photoshoots.
The appropriately named SHED Architecture and Design has done a lovely garage conversion into a 300 square foot studio apartment in a Seattle backyard. It is hard to call it a renovation, but zoning bylaws would not permit a new building, so they appear to have retained a few sticks. It is another good example of how one can make such a small space not only habitable but lovely to look at.
