(She's also got a little girl on the way.) Hi I Am Momma readers! I love re-purposing projects, because you get to take something useless to you and make it useful again...or maybe even something you love. :) Such is the case with some too tight, too short sweaters I had, that I converted to cardigans. I know, I know...this has been done before - a lot, but this is my version of a: With most cardigans you have buttons that line the length of it so you could technically wear it as a blouse if needed.

With these cardigans, because they are starting out as too tight and too short sweaters, there are only two to three buttons that clasp the cardigan partially closed. Materials: Matching thread looks best...but as you'll see I didn't for two of my cardigans. Let's begin. Boleros & Shrugs. I did not do it by hand because I was into instant gratification! The first cut of the bodice is 13" from the neckline/shoulder. I cut a pleasing curve. I have a bin full of these hems. I also cut 1/2" strips for trimming. Sewing first strip. Second row. And the sleeves. These strips will develop more character with washing and wearing. Finished! Upcycle t-shirts to shrug. So what do you do on a cold rainy day?

Pull out the bag of way too big old t-shirts and start up-cycling! I used a Men's Medium t-shirt and made it into a short sleeve shrug/jacket thing. Here is the basic layout on how I cut the t-shirt out. The strips that I cut off of the bottom I sewed together and they became the ruffled edging all around. Then on the sleeves I did a double tulip sleeve. I should have taken more picture probably in the process, but I find I just get so busy and have so much fun with the projects that I forget to take pictures... But it was all very simple and basic. Then I sewed the edging onto the body of the garment all the way around. Lettuce Make A Shrug. I'm told it is Spring.

Though I've seen the sun a few times- I'm still not yet completely convinced until its time to cut my grass. I worked up this quick and easy tutorial which will help you transform your humbum regular old long sleeve tshirt into a fun and fancy shrug/cardigan perfect to wear over a sundress for a day at the races or pair it up w/ a tank and jeans for a trip to the park. Go ahead and grab something to cut with and something to cut- and we'll get started! I started with this medium weighted long sleeve shirt from Coldwater Creek. It was comfortable but I didn't like the length in the tummy area.
