An invitation to play all through out the learning environment. In my previous post, I shared with you a short tutorial on creating an invitation to play.

An invitation to play all through out the learning environment

Today I want to share with you how an invitation to play can be set up throughout the classroom environment. An invitation to play at the art table By taking the time to make each area of your classroom inviting, the children will be more interested in participating in each area of your classroom. When providing a planned art activity, I do my very best to make sure the art table has the materials set out in such a way that the process is not only inviting but is also self-explanatory and as open ended as possible… An invitation to play at the play dough table I want to make sure there are plenty of materials available for each experience I am inviting the children to explore… An invitation to play at the easel Even the easel can be set up with different materials and brushes and paper to keep it creative and inviting for young children to come back and explore many times over…

Preschool resources. FMS. Art ideas. Exploring newspaper. Newspaper is a fun medium for exploration in preschool.

Exploring newspaper

We started out in circletime with reading a few headlines and hunting for a letter ‘Nn’ and different colors in our newspapers… I brought over a random stack of newspapers to look through and each child had their own to open, fold, close, and “read” as we went along with our morning circletime… This wasn’t a “sit and listen to me” circletime session. I simply modeled a little newspaper reading for the children as they explored their own newspapers and we talked about what they were finding through casual conversation…. After circletime, the children found a variety of newspaper activities throughout the classroom including these interesting newspaper paint brushes I made for them to paint with… The paint brushes were strips of newspaper stapled to the end of a craft stick.

The children used red, black and white paint because we discovered that those were the three most used colors in the newspapers we had explored earlier that day… Dr Seuss. The color game in preschool. This is a little game we made for our preschoolers to have fun working on color recognition… First we made a little cube and put a different color on each side – red, yellow, blue, green, orange, and purple.

Then we cut out 6 large circles from construction paper and laminated them… The object of the game was to roll the color cube and then stand on the color of circle that matches the color facing up on the cube… The children made up their own rules of the game as they played… The objectives of the game took on different twists and turns… The game was played on the floor and on the table… All kinds of accessories were added to the game… This would be a good example of an “open ended” game!
