DIY TOUCH UPS FOR THE PETITE CLUTCH

photos + post by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun This little lifesaver is the brainchild of my lovely {and clever} client Emmy Rossum ! Last Saturday I had the pleasure of doing her makeup for her Shameless panel at Comic Con, but I did it at 6:30am here in LA for her to leave at 8 and drive two hours to San Diego and attend the event until 5pm, without me there to help her with touch ups. Of course lipstick and blotting papers fit in her clutch, but not her foundation bottle or cream eye shadow.
We all want to have shiny, healthy hair without overspending on pricey products and treatments. For centuries women have sworn by one DIY method: all-natural hair oils . We've already discussed the amazing benefits of the ultra-popular argan oil , coconut oil , and macadamia nut oil , but a slew of other options can add gloss, luster, and length to your locks. We chatted with Ava Shamban, M.D, author of Heal Your Skin , and celebrity hairstylist Corey Powell of Sally Hershberger Los Angeles (clients include Cameron Diaz and Hilary Swank) about these healthy hair helpers.

Today is the start of Flower Week on Folding Trees. Every weekday, I will be showcasing different types of paper flowers. You may be surprised at the variety of flowers you can make using different paper craft techniques! If you know of any amazing flower tutorials I should include in my round-up, let me know ! When I had the idea for Flower Week, I thought I would kick off the week with some flowers that I made myself. http://foldingtrees.com/2008/08/flower-week-tissue-paper-carnations/

Organize with Cabinet Doors

Here at Infarrantly Creative, I’ve been busy showing you how I utilized the space on the inside of cabinet doors to better organize my own kitchen . As it turns out, that empty space on the inside of my doors had amazing hidden potential! When you stop to consider the square footage of level, usable space on the interior of your cupboard doors, you can start to envision new possibilities for controlling kitchen clutter. I’ve found a wealth of ideas for taking advantage of both sides of your cabinetry that I can’t wait to show you in this installment of 5 Ways Saturdays. http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2011/08/5-ways-to-organize-with-cabinet-doors.html
http://cottonandcurls.blogspot.com/2011/01/day-28-seeing-stripes.html This was a fun skirt to make! I cut two tee shirts up in 4 inch sections, then sewed them together in alternating colors matching the seams together. Sew with zig zag stitch-make sure your fabric doesn't stretch while you sew or it will looked rippled or serge with it set to sew knits. I made sure the bottom, hemmed 4 inch section of one shirt was the top and the bottom, hemmed 4 inch section of the other shirt was the bottom so there wasn't any hemming necessary.

Birgit from Birgit's Daily Bytes decided to experiment with a few different DIY methods for making supplies to cut her crafty costs, particularly projects that she could use for art journaling.

christmas ornament: paper snowflake tutorial

Christmas ornament: Paper Snowflake Tutorial Here is a tutorial for a stunning paper snowflake that is approx. 20 inches in diameter. It’s a real show stopper! The tutorial might seem a bit daunting, but it’s really easy and quick to make. Just a lot of small steps that need explanation. All you need is printer paper, scissors and glue.
A few weeks ago I shared a pic of some butterfly punch-outs I had done from a Pottery Barn catalog (it was a really colorful picture of some towels all stacked together). I had seen a picture that Ali Edwards made of butterflies all lined up and punched from many different colors of paper (which gave me some serious inspiration in the butterfly department). I decided that I wanted to do something similar but with a different spin! I started working on this little project Saturday afternoon.

The Butterfly Project...

One thing I've learned during my blogging adventures: You eat with your eyes first! Photography is everything when trying to capture a tutorial for your readers, or make your products look desirable on Etsy.com . And what's the most important part? Lighting!

DIY Photo Light Box // Take Better Photos!

Before I explain this project, I need to set two things straight. First off-- I'm a sentimental hoarder. If a fond memory is even remotely related to an inanimate object, I keep it. For example, I have almost every ticket from any movie I've ever seen, I have a serious problem with getting rid of stuffed animals, and I have a knickknack box full of dumb things like a dried clover flower that my friend threw at me while we were lying in a cornfield, bored, waiting for a cross country race to end.

Update January 2013: Thanks to everyone who has visited, commented and shared this post. Who knew my little craft would be so popular?? pricklypants.com is now defunct but if you like what you see, join me over at reneeyoxon.com where I blog about my life as a professional jazz musician. See you there! Renée Craig’s 28th birthday was yesterday so I decided to make him a little book out of playing cards to tell him how much I love him.
