And besides that, it’s a Hollis Family Favorite. I love it so much I can eat the leftovers for days, but Dave isn’t really interested in re-heated meat so I came up with this little recipe. Add a little cheddar cheese and some pre-made pie dough and these leftovers might be better than the original dish! ~Rachel I like to buy pre-made pie dough when it’s on sale (right after holidays is always a good time!)

It was Mother Lovett’s and I’ve totally destroyed it. She kept it spotless for 30 some years, then I inherited it in 2009 and it’s gone straight down the tubes. Like, immediately down. Sure, you may say it’s “seasoned”… but I can assure you it’s simply a product of my laziness to do any type of dishes within six hours of cooking. And that’s on a good day. But that tiny sheet is often my inspiration for scaling down normal-sized meals: whether it’s something that only I will be eating or something that I want to shrink in size so we can feel better about devouring multiple servings… it gets used every single day of my life. ..cute little calzones stuffed with: chicken dripping in barbecue sauce super caramelized onions and piles of cheddar and provolone. That totally makes up for Monday. These came in the form of dinner one night, after I had the freezer door slammed in my face then was given a very specific lesson on how to fill the ice cube trays.

My older one is starting kindergarten this fall (that reality hasn’t quite hit me yet) while my younger one will have another year of preschool. Back-to-school shopping has been slipping from my mind, but my sister snaps me back to reality when she mentions new backpacks or shoes for my nephew, and then I have to conjure up motivation again to look at winter jackets and lunchboxes because by September everything is backordered.

I also start to rethink the kids’ lunches and try to add more options beyond the 4 to 5 dishes that I rotate through. I get super motivated the first couple of weeks – trying different meals, prepping the night before – then the mojo is gone and I slip back to the same old menus. I mean, the meals are good and my kids aren’t complaining, but variety is not a bad thing. Half Baked Harvest - Made with Love. I think these may just be the best thing ever.

There is cheese and flakey puff pastry and umm, everyone’s most favorite soup, broccoli cheddar. I actually know people who do not eat broccoli, but eat broccoli cheddar soup. It’s just that good and it’s kind of always been my favorite, ever since my first bread bowl soup back into my childhood days when there was actually a Panera within driving distance. But then last year I made my own twist on broccoli cheddar soup and I have to say, my curried version with butternut squash and goat cheese totally rivals Panera’s. BUT there is still something to be said about classic broccoli cheddar.

You know what IS a big fail. My dad decided, at around three o’clock on Monday, that since he had the day off of work for Columbus Day, he’d start in on cleaning out our water tank. Ugh. I know pies are typically a sweet thing, but I gotta say that pies of the savory variety are totally delicious! Also, what is it about mini things that are just so cute?
