Régulièrement, le pays du Soleil Levant nous gratifie de nouvelles technologies toujours plus surprenantes et futuristes, aux applications parfois très vastes. Ainsi, lors du dernier salon CEATEC, nous découvrions ainsi des robots imitant le déplacement de bancs de poissons ou encore des écouteurs contrôlables par les yeux. Cette fois, c'est au tour de l'entreprise japonaise NEC de créer la surprise en présentant un système visuel et sonore de traduction instantanée anglais / japonais, et inversement. Associé à une paire de lunettes fabriquées par la société nipponne Brother, le petit boitier portatif effectue la traduction en quasi temps réel et projette ensuite une image sur la rétine.

Creating captions for your videos on YouTube becomes much easier today, thanks to automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology. Auto-Timing: Upload a transcript (a simple file with the text of what's said in the video), and through speech recognition technology we'll turn it into synchronized captions. Timing is the toughest part of creating captions, but now this should be much easier. The technology works best for videos with good sound quality and clear spoken English.
Marked more by its story than its design, the Joojoo tablet is somewhat of a mythical (and controversial ) beast. So when we got a phone call to see it for ourselves with Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan , we jumped at the opportunity. Turns out it's quite a capable little device, and chief among its feats so far seems to be smooth 1080p YouTube playback . Seriously, we were quite impressed with just how crisp and lag-free it was, at least for the Avatar trailer we tested.

C'est à l'occasion de la conférence LeMeur 09 que Jack Dorsey, fondateur du réseau social Twitter, a présenté The Square, un service de micro-paiement sur mobile et PC. The Square est un cube de plastique se fixant à la prise casque d'un téléphone ou branché à l'ordinateur et qui doit permettre de réaliser des micro-paiements en toute simplicité. C'est Jack Dorsey, fondateur de Twitter, qui en a fait la présentation lors de la conférence LeMeur 09 qui se tient actuellement à Paris.

Having trouble understanding your baby’s burbles, screeches and noisy, wheedling screams? There’s an app for that. The Cry Translator listens to a whining child and analyzes the pitch, volume, tone and inflection of his nerve-jangling noise. Ten seconds later, it provides you with one of five “translations”: hungry, sleepy, stressed, annoyed or bored. The idea of this $30 iPhone application, apart from preying on the anxieties of new parents, is to help teach you the meanings of the distinctive sounds and to help out babysitters who might otherwise try to feed your three-month old (hunger) instead of just switching over to the Family Guy from American Idol (bored). The application even gives advice on what to do, depending on the translation.
