Juvenil - Servicio Voluntario Europeo - Las organizaciones acreditadas. Our organisation's activity is mainly realised in Budapest, capital of Hungary, a busy and lively city full of cultural and entertainment opportunities.
This city of 2 million inhabitants has several universities and hosts hundreds of foreign students as well. The office is situated in the hearth of the city, can be reached by metro and by the most popular tramline of Budapest. It is on the 3rd floor of a nice old building where the two employees (Tünde and Kati) work together with the volunteers. It is equipped with computers, Internet, telephone, fax. etc. The office has a main room as a workplace where also small gatherings and workshops can be hold. The volunteers are mostly hosted in a flat with 3 rooms closed to Keleti Railway Station.
All programs is realized by a warm, cheerful, young community in which EVS volunteers can accommodate themselves and initiate new direction in the frame of the yearly topic. We have at the moment two volunteer placements open: 1. He/she will be responsible for the content of the organisation's webpage/Facebook page/green newsletter and blog writing, will help in office administrational work and offer support to our coordinators in planning and realising green communication campaigns. Project environment: Sólheimar is a small village with around 100 inhabitants, the first one of its kind in the world, where grown-up mentally handicapped people plus staff live.
It has been described as a "microworld" where many activities are run and all the inhabitants take full part in them. The project runs and owns its own local store, greenhouses and other biological gardening during the summer months, weaving and carpentry workshops are also managed by the community. An own theatre group is active and some volunteers are interested to help and participate in those activities. The project strongly interacts with the local and national communities and this offers a great opportunity for the hosted volunteer to be part of the project, whose members understand themselves as part of an enlarged family, as well as the be exposed to Icelandic reality at large.
