Additional Yahoo BOSS Geo Features Here are some key additional features of the new BOSS Geo offerings: Yahoo Japan scoops up location-based mobile ad firm Cirius. Yahoo Japan has acquired location-based mobile ad firm Cirius Technologies. Cirius is based in Tokyo and operates AdLocal, a service that targets consumers with ads. It takes into account the physical location of the users via global positioning system (GPS), cell phone identification, map coordinates and other data. Cirius has about 38 employees. After the acquisition, AdLocal will close its U.S. office in San Francisco, Calif. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gen Miyazawa, 28, founded Cirius in 2004. Earlier this morning Microsoft outlined some of the major new changes coming to Bing, including the introduction of the new Bing Maps (you can see our full coverage here). A few minutes ago, the Bing Maps Beta went live for everyone, bringing with it a number of innovative new features sure to keep the Google Maps team on their toes. You can try out the new beta here.
But there’s one catch: in order to tap into the site’s new features, you’re going to have to have Microsoft’s Silverlight installed. There are a number of new things to check out here. First, there’s Streetside, Bing’s answer to Google Street View. Unfortunately, you’ll find that Streetside isn’t nearly as comprehensive as Google Maps — I just tried to take use it in Palo Alto (where TechCrunch HQ is located) and the option wasn’t available.
