Preschool Activity Trays

This year I will be homeschooling my 4 year old for her last year of preschool. She spent a year in Montessori School before we moved to China, and I love the Montessori Method! So I really wanted to replicate that in my homeschool as much as I could. Of course... I am in China, and still waiting for our shipment of household goods to arrive, so my resources are somewhat limited. Teaching Basic Money Concepts to Children

Buying toys and candy, going to the movies, and renting video tapes all cost money. While our ancestors may have bartered for much of what they needed, trading a chicken for a doctor's house call or a basket of eggs for a bolt of calico, today we use hard cash. Grown-ups know that the tiny dime is more valuable than the larger nickel and penny, but to children, this may be hard to understand. The very first step in learning about money and finance, therefore, is understanding what money is all about. Ways to Teach Kids About Money. For many families, talking about money is taboo.

Ways to Teach Kids About Money

The adults make it, the kids ask for it, end of story. Yet financial experts agree that understanding cash, credit, and consumerism is possible, and important, for building a sense of financial responsibility in children. How can you teach your kids about money? What kind of message should you teach them? Coin and Money Related Crafts. Recycled Piggy Bank. Decoupage Coin Banks. A terrarium is a container made of glass or other clear material, enclosing a garden of small plants. Terrariums are usually sealed, and therefore need little or no care. They water themselves. The containers don't have to be specifically designed as terrariums. You could try a large glass cookie jar, a fish tank with a lid, decorative bowls with lids, or wine casks, water bottles or old olive oil bottles. Stand it up or lay it on its side. Terrariums were very popular back in the '70s, but fell out of favour for a few years... well, maybe 30 years. How Does it Work? All plants breathe, taking in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen.

CRAFT Project: Mason Jar Terrarium. The crafting world seems to have come down with a major case of terrarium fever, and I’m no exception. It’s so much fun creating these verdant little worlds, and I especially like that my cats can’t get to the plants inside. I’ve been having a lot of fun making woodland-themed moss terrariums for friends, so I thought I’d share what I’ve learned with CRAFT readers. You can purchase lidded glass containers at craft stores, but this project relies on reusing mason jars you may already have on hand. The rest of the materials needed can easily be found at home and garden stores.

Read on to find out more! Start by adding a 1" layer of pebbles to the bottom of the jar, followed by a thin layer of charcoal.
