Middle Age Cyclist: Pedal Power! To go with my new SON hub I need to get a super dooper front light.

Middle Age Cyclist: Pedal Power!

I intend to go for a Schmidt Edelux in black. Here is a video someone shot cycling with this light and if that is not enough to impress you I don't know what will. I think it looks great; there are no batteries to change/recharge, it's always on the bike and ready to go, it's got German build quality (same maker as the hub) and it has mega lumens! However, there is a slight fly in the ointment. As the new hub and wheel has set me back a tidy sum and I have no real need of the light until autumn I will be waiting until until September to purchase it. Anyone who just likes cycling as a simple pleasure, an escape from the hurly burly of busy life might wish to stop reading now as I intend to talk about GPS units, mobile phones, digital cameras, bullet cams and netbooks and keeping them charged while cycling and camping. Most hub dynamos produce AC current.

Bicycle Lights and Generators. Schmidt's Original Nabendynamo The Schmidt Dynamo front hub or SON (Schmidt's Original Nabendynamo) is extremely reliable and has almost no drag.

Bicycle Lights and Generators

Made by Wilfried Schmidt Maschinenbau in Tübingen, Germany, the hub is quiet and is designed to give at least 50,000 kilometers of trouble free riding between servicings. The hub powers many different six volt headlights including Schmidt's own E6 halogen models, the Schmidt Edelux and Edelux II LED headlight, both halogen and LED headlamps (as well as taillights) made by Busch & Müller in Meinerzhagen, Germany, Supernova lights from Germany, and Spanninga lights from France. The SON is extremely popular amongst long distance cyclists who need reliable lighting for all night cycling in any weather conditions. Brevet riders would rather have light when they need it, and don't want to carry batteries for a 1200k event. All versions of the hub now have a five year warrantee. Click here for pricing. A module that's placed on the handlebars, it lets you control your phone while moving along—for example, to answer calls or navigate Spotify. But it's more than that. The self-proclaimed "World’s Smartest Connected Biking System" is really a way to integrate a phone into your bike, establishing an operating system to manage fitness, monitor lights and signals, and more. Developed in Germany, the COBI comes with a powerful LED front-light and a built-in battery that extends a phone's normal life.

Once you place a handset inside the housing and download the accompanying app, you can get all the things other bike computers offer, like turn-by-turn directions, "buddy radar" (locating nearby friends), and maps of upcoming roads. The app also integrates with lights on the back of the bike. Finally, COBI also has an proximity and anti-theft protection system. Routes at Bikely.com. Cycling Routes, Bike Trails. Revolights.
