Having been in the business for over 20 years now, his diverse palate of sounds has made him a valuable asset in the niche world. One of his most recent games being Insomniac Games’ action-adventure title “Edge of Nowhere.” The game follows Victor Howard as he is searching for his fiancé, Ava Thorne, whom is part of a lost expedition in Antarctica. Victor’s rescue mission takes a sudden turn as he ventures deeper into a dark monstrous world where reality twists around him and desperate to find the one he loves, must encounter disturbing creatures as he further descends into madness.

With a score originally composed by David Bergeaud, the franchise’s music developed with each iteration, keeping to its roots, but changing as Boris Salchow took over from Bergeaud in 2009 for A Crack in Time. Upcoming co-op title, All 4 One, will once again see another musician take the reins of the series, with Oddworld composer Michael Bross set to bring his own talents to the title, while building on the work of his predecessors.

Hi Michael, could you tell us about your work on Ratchet and Clank, and your experience in the industry? This is the first time I’ll be working within the Ratchet and Clank universe, which I’m pretty excited about. I began work last summer on the project and am currently in production on the music. Through my own work on Oddworld HD remakes, I has the chance to chat with Michael, who was kind enough to answer a few questions for Designing Sound Designing Sound: Can you tell us a little about how you got into game audio, and your audio career so far? Can you tell us a little about what you are currently working on? Michael Bross: I was first hired by a small game company called Paragon Software as a composer in the early 1990′s. I ended up doing sound design for them, too, and learned that part of my work on the job.
