In an attempt to save money on rent Dai Haifei, a 24-year-old architect in Beijing has constructed a mobile egg-shaped home from bamboo, wood and grass seed. Graphic designer Nick Sayers has mastered the art of geodesic sphere making, using materials ranging from bicycle wheels to tape measurers. These are some of my favorites including a light made with 270 poker playing cards, one from 120 British rail tickets, and another constructed with 60 slotted plastic Coke bottles. All of his spheres are made without glue or adhesive relying solely on strategically placed cuts in the materials to hold everything together. Over the past few months I’ve encountered a fair share of high-speed exploding balloon photos, some of which have found their way onto Colossal including the work of Edward Horsford and recently Ryan Taylor.
However these magnificent captures by designer James Huse are something wholly different. The surface of these inverted balloon photos flare and whorl like solar flares on the Sun, and yet simultaneously appear cold and frozen, perhaps the result of Huse’s decision to use milk-filled balloons. The project, entitled An Abrupt End was completed as part of his final year at Kingston Upon Thames where he’s studying graphic design and photography.
The rest of his work is also impeccable and snagged him a Best New Blood award at the 2011 D&AD Awards. Somebody should hire this guy and pay him lots and lots of money. It was a large, realistic rendering of a Merchant Marine ship. My client wanted the tattoo in memory of his Grandfather. We discussed the options and eventually decided on a reference image for the ship The tattoo would span the entire length of his shin and I would need to invent a way to create a border for the piece. I had recently picked up a vintage oval mirror with intricately carved ornaments on the frame and as I was trying to think of a great concept for the client, my eyes settled on the ornamental mirror and I instantly knew what to do.

A Polar Panorama can make a 360° view appear to be a separate planet as shown below, or could be created with the sky as the center of the image as shown at the bottom of this page. A Polar Panorama makes a terrific print at any standard dimensions, and avoids the problem of printing and framing long, thin panoramas. I assembled this Polar Panorama at 3275x4094 resolution, to capture the view around Teotihuacán in Mexico. This image started with a set of 16 separate shots I photographed with my Sony DSC-F707 digital camera: 1. 2. 3. This Instructable shows how to make a wallet with pockets accessed from the inside seam of the wallet, however depending on how you like to use a wallet, you may want a coin section or outside accessed pockets. For outside accessed pockets, all steps are similar, only the template cutting differs. Pictures one to three show the template for outside accessed pockets. Folding process remains the same. If you want to add a section to hold coins, follow the process to make inside accessed pockets and crease diagonals to allow the pocket to be squeezed together to insert coins. When the wallet is closed all of the coins will be shut in the wallet and will not escape into your pocket. Enjoy experimenting and try other Tetrapak packaging. Have fun!
