A play is a form of literature written by a playwright , usually consisting of scripted dialogue between characters , intended for theatrical performance rather than just reading . Plays are performed at a variety of levels, from Broadway , Off-Broadway , regional theater , to Community theatre , as well a University or school productions. There are rare dramatists, notably George Bernard Shaw , who have had little preference whether their plays were performed or read. The term "play" can refer to both the written works of playwrights and to their complete theatrical performance. [ 1 ]

Director's cut
A director's cut is a specially edited version of a film , and less often TV series , music video , commercials , comic book or video games , that is supposed to represent the director 's own approved edit. 'Cut' explicitly refers to the process of film editing : the director's cut is preceded by the rough editor's cut and followed by the final cut meant for the public film release . Director's cuts generally remain unreleased to the public because, as far as film is concerned, with most film studios the director does not have a final cut privilege . The studio (whose investment is at risk) can insist on changes that they think will make the film more likely to succeed at the box office . This sometimes means a happier ending or less ambiguity, or excluding scenes that would earn a more audience-restricting rating , but more often means that the film is simply shortened to provide more screenings per day.

Direct-to-video (also known as direct-to-DVD , direct-to-iTunes , [ citation needed ] direct-to-VHS , direct-to-digital , made-for-video , straight-to-video , shot-on-video , or straight-to-DVD ) is the release of a film to the public on home video formats (historically VHS ) without being released in theaters or broadcast on television . [ 1 ] Because sufficiently inferior sequels , prequels , or midquels of larger-budget films may be released direct-to-video, references to direct-to-video releases are often pejorative. Still, direct-to-video releases have become something of a lifeline for independent filmmakers and smaller companies. [ 2 ] [ edit ] Reasons for releasing direct-to-video A production studio may decide not to generally release a TV show or film for several possible reasons: poor quality, lack of support from a TV network, negative reviews, controversial nature, or a simple lack of general public interest.
Film treatment
A film treatment (or treatment ) is a piece of prose, typically the step between scene cards ( index cards ) and the first draft of a screenplay for a motion picture , television program, or radio play. It is generally longer and more detailed than an outline (or one-page synopsis ), and it may include details of directorial style that an outline omits. Showrunner
" Showrunner " is a term originating in the United States television industry referring to the person who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a television series—although such persons generally are credited as an executive producer [ 1 ] or supervising producer. The showrunner is at the opposite end of the staff hierarchy from runners , who are the most junior members of the production team, though sometimes showrunners are called "runners" for short. The term is also occasionally applied to people in the television industries of other countries. Unlike films, where directors are typically in creative control of a production, in episodic television the showrunner usually outranks the director . [ 2 ]
Fourth wall
The fourth wall is the imaginary "wall" at the front of the stage in a traditional three-walled box set in a proscenium theatre , through which the audience sees the action in the world of the play . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The idea of the fourth wall was made explicit by philosopher and critic Denis Diderot and spread in 19th-century theatre with the advent of theatrical realism , [ 3 ] which extended the idea to the imaginary boundary between any fictional work and its audience. Speaking directly to or otherwise acknowledging the audience through the camera in a film or television program, or through this imaginary wall in a play, is referred to as " breaking the fourth wall " and is considered a technique of metafiction , as it penetrates the boundaries normally set up by works of fiction.
