Essays are a part of any student’s life – almost every subject in university requires you to write essays. Even a single paper might account for 20% of your final score, but sometimes it can contribute even more. Writing is a process: The intial preparation involves brainstorming ideas and performing exhaustive research before planning your outline in a logical manner. It’s nerve wracking, and you may barely have energy left to write the paper well. If you’ve passed the very first step, then there is still a long way until you can proudly submit or print your results. When it’s finally time to write it’s not all smooth sailing to flesh out the right words.

From time to time, the words and phrases that we overuse come out in papers as well. So next time when writing an essay, remind yourself about these 20 words and phrases you can put into rotation. The best free TEFL websites. If you are a TEFL teacher you'll find the web is awash with great sites for English language learners - and harnessing these and having a stock of the best ones is obviously helpful for teachers of English. You'll also get extra brownie points for keeping abreast of the latest and most relevant learner sites and tools. After all, few course books will have much on the economic crisis or Barack Obama's inauguration; but you can bet the internet does with neat articles perhaps already ‘treated,' ripe for the language learner interested in current affairs.

Lets' start with one of my favourites: Onestop English. While most of this site is subscription based, check out their free-to-view news articles, adapted from the Guardian weekly and neatly treated for level. For listening and pronunciation activities, these 2 sites are hard to beat: The British Council and the BBC's special learning English site.
