We understand some kinds of privilege. The privilege to call a black man "Boy", even if that black man happens to be 60 years old or older. As African Americans, we have the ability to critique and condemn these types of "unearned assets" because we recognize that these privileges come largely at our expense.
However, there is another type of privilege that has caused untold harm to both black men and women but has not had the benefit of being challenged by a social and political movement within our community, nor given adequate attention within our own academic community. Male privilege is more than just a "double standard", because it is based on attitudes or actions that come at the expense of women. I believe that there are more similarities between men than there are differences. 1. Beauty 11. Sports 49. Soc.feminism Terminologies. Adult Content Notice. Feminism, you'll hear over and over, is the simple belief that women are human beings.
However, there's complaints that some feminists take this credo too seriously and therefore are a big pain in the patoot, ruining younger feminists' fun, criticizing their pink minis, and trying to rip their makeup out of their trembling and well-manicured hands. Society is based on the notion that women are things to be used up and discarded. Therefore, while it is possible to work within a framework of society, one has to be very careful as to how one goes about it.
Feminism is nothing less than an insurgency in society, disturbing the very framework of our lives. Women are supposed to keep society running and to absorb all the dirty work and dirty shit that society creates and does. Feminism aims to turn all this upside down. Being a feminist is not a lightweight thing. The world is sexist. You won't be popular as a feminist.

As a result I’m thinking and writing a lot about sexual assault/violence and the context in which these things exist, Rape Culture. Though it should be clear from the prior post, I think it is also important to directly state that Rape Culture is perpetuated by sexism and misogyny. Misogyny isn’t only overt hatred of women. It is all the beliefs, attitudes and actions that convey contempt, disdain, objectification or the idea that women are in any way less than men. It is all the ways femininity is used as the brunt of the joke or something to be avoided. Our culture over-values men and masculinity and devalues women and femininity in ways that are destructive for us all. Even those with privilege are impacted negatively by sexism. The media plays a powerful role in transmitting our cultural values about gender.

Excerpts from Roe v. Wade (1973) - The Supreme Court's Case for Abortion. Roe v. Wade (1973), the ruling that made abortion legal in the United States, is one of the most controversial Supreme Court cases in U.S. history. Everyone has an opinion on Roe v. Wade. But very few people know exactly what it was that the Supreme Court majority opinion, written by Associate Justice Harry Blackmun, actually says. The fact that it's a Supreme Court ruling, full of footnotes and case history, makes it less accessible than, say, an op-ed column would be. On the following pages you will see actual excerpts from the Roe v. The Roe v. Different National / Ethnic Feminisms.
