How to Re-create damaged EntitlementDataStore.ecml file to resolve license and registration issues

When you install QuickBooks, you enter license number and product code information to complete the installation and validate your copy of QuickBooks. If the encrypted file containing that information is damaged, QuickBooks will not open, and might display an error message. In those situations, deleting the entitlement file and reentering your license and product information may resolve the issue.

Important: The entitlement file is stored in a hidden Windows folder. You can still view the folder's contents if you open it directly using the instructions below. However, if you prefer browsing to the folder, you must first configure Windows Explorer to display hidden files and folders. For more information, step 1 in "Searching for a file on a computer running Microsoft Windows" instructs you how to display hidden files and folders.

Detailed instructions

For Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8:

Close all the QuickBooks if it's open. Open the entitlement data folder for your operating system and version of QuickBooks.

On your keyboard, press Windows + R to open the Run window.

Enter (or copy and paste) the following information, and then press Enter

      QuickBooks 2105 and Enterprise 15.0: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8

      QuickBooks 2014 and Enterprise 14.0: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8

      QuickBooks 2013 and Enterprise 13.0: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8

Right-click the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file and select Delete. Click yes to confirm you want to delete the file. Open QuickBooks, open your company file, and follow the instructions to register the application.
