I wanted octagons because it is easy to turn them into squares. My dresden fan blocks have 24 wedges. I use a 15 degre fan ruler to make them. An octagon has 8 sides so all I have to do is to turn 3 sides of the dresden block into 1.The first step is simple. Step2 Rotate the block counter clockwise and cut the next 3 sides. Step 3 (picture below). You can see below the vertical and horizontal sides aligned with the lines of the cutting mat. Patchwork. Molly Flanders: Rolling On....Freezer Paper Piecing Tutorial.... Here is a little tutorial for piecing the arcs of this wheel with freezer paper....
Once I have made my arcs for each quadrant of the circle and added 1/4 inch seam allowance to the arcs and the outside corner....I transfer each template to freezer paper {drawing on the paper side not the shiny side}.... To my freezer paper arcs I add lines to separate the segments. Then I score the lines with the back of a seam ripper so that the paper is easier fold. I am a little bit bow tie obsessed as you can see HERE, HERE, and HERE. They are simple to make and are a great beginner sewing project. Like many of us, she adores Japanese sewing books for their distinctive aesthetic.
Along with articles on how to use the books and a glossary of common terms, the website offers lots of links to free sewing patterns. Yup, they're all in Japanese, but it's possible that clever sewists might have enough to go on to make some of the projects. There are, of course, many methods for doing this.
This is the way I have discovered works well for me. Here are some examples of quilts I have created and quilted with concentric circles. These both happen to be square, however you could quilt circles on any size or shape quilt and acheive a different result. On the first one I chose to space the lines evenly apart, for the second one, you’ll notice I chose to vary the widths of the lines.
