[NEW YORK, NY] Jeremy Hammond, a 28-year-old political activist, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to participating in the Anonymous hack into the computers of the private intelligence firm Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor). The Ceremonial Courtroom at the Federal Court for the Southern District of New York was filled today with an outpouring of support by journalists, activists and other whistleblowers who see Jeremy Hammond’s actions as a form of civil disobedience, motivated by a desire to protest and expose the secret activities of private intelligence corporations.
Jeremy Hammond, by Molly Crabapple The hearing opened with arguments as to what sections of the court record will remain redacted after sentencing. Susan was followed by Jeremy Hammond himself, who gave a detailed, touching and consequential allocution to the court. Good morning. Image by Claire Pestaille As part of my ongoing interest in contemporary pop-sociological takes on the 1960s, I read historian Theodore Roszak’s The Making of a Counter Culture (1969). Its patronizing tone (“it is the young who have in their own amateurish, even grotesque way, gotten dissent off the adult drawing”>and platitudes about youth’s fundamental yearning for spiritual authenticity and not political change makes for tedious and pedantic reading, but it usefully illustrates how the social threats critics saw in technology have shifted.
Like many critics of the period, Roszak was chiefly worried about the “technocracy,” the emergence of a totally administered society run by hyperrational engineers and bureaucrats, yielding a de facto planned economy that allows no one any genuine autonomy, impetus, or spontaneity. Neoliberalism reshaped the contours of that sort of “total system” — industrial policy was felled by globalization, as was the truce between labor and capital. Years at all of the stories that we've shared here, it kind of blows my mind. I really didn't know how I wanted to work with myth when I started this blog. I was feeling my way, following the desire to share my thoughts and experiences and knowledge of mythology with anyone who was open and interested.
"Myth, culture, and consciousness" has gone through several different agendas and site names. Thank you for reading, commenting, emailing, and being here, there, out there. One important (and in retrospect, obvious) thing that I've learned is this: the stories that call to me and that I've shared with you, have an immediate connection to the lived themes of my daily life. In my case, Ithaca is a clear sense of purpose. My Ithaca is called Mythic Mojo. This is "probably" my last post on this blog. Charles T. Tart is internationally known for his more than 50 years of research on the nature of consciousness, altered states of consciousness (ASCs) and parapsychology, and is one of the founders of the field of Transpersonal (spiritual) Psychology. His and other scientists’ work convinced him that there is a real and vitally important sense in which we are spiritual beings, but the too dominant, scientistic, materialist philosophy of our times, masquerading as genuine science, dogmatically denies any possible reality to the spiritual. It's because your brain is overloaded and your attention is over-divided. How do you cure it? By selectively sprinting into your most important tasks. That's according to Tony Schwartz, an engagement consultant who's worked with the likes of Google, Facebook, and Coca-Cola. Writing for the New York Times, Schwartz makes an intuitive argument: that since quality work requires focus, and you only have the energy to focus for so long, you need to be conscious of how and when you focus in order to do your best work.
"... it’s better to work highly focused for short periods of time, with breaks in between, than to be partially focused for long periods of time. What he says is interesting for a few reasons. When you push the limits of your ability and give yourself a goal, you're apt to enter into what positive psychologists call flow. After the sprint comes the rest. Have you ever started playing a game and get a few hours in and go “man I wish I knew these controls/tips from the beginning”? So you restart and the game just feels easier from that point on.
You start finding items that you missed before. I’m restarting my journey now that I have a better idea of the controls.” This resonated with me, because when I first played EverQuest (similar to World of Warcraft), the first character I created was terrible. When I started again playing as a new character, I FLEW through the first 30 levels: I understood the controls, how the game worked, and what needed to get done; it was much easier the second time through! The same is true for any boss battle you first encounter in any game.

About my art I’ve been painting for around 15 years; although, I didn’t throw myself into it fully until about seven years ago. I work mainly with acrylics, but I also create mixed media art and drawings from time to time. I live in Wichita, Kansas. I have a home-based studio and used to have an art gallery in Wichita’s Towne West Mall (closed due to Covid). I’m currently focusing on painting animals in a colorful style that I call visionary impressionism. My visionary impressionist paintings can pretty much be thought of as Impressionism 2.0. I paint the light and movement that I observe with my eyes, like the classical Impressionists did, but I also paint what I feel emotionally and sense intuitively.

Alert...NASA HAS DELETED ALL THE LINKS TO THESE UFO PHOTOS AS OF JAN 2013. :(UFO Sighting Photos leaked out of NASA-Johnson Space Center, 100% clear UFOs In High Detail!
Take a look at these amazing photos that were leaked out of NASA Johnson Space Center. The quality of the photos is almost HD and the detail we see of the UFO recorded by a NASA satellite orbiting are incredible. The most important question here is not what they are...space stations or ships, but is the species that built them still on board those ships? It looks to me that these photos were taken by someone that works for NASA and had access the famous "airbrush room. " That is where they erase all the UFOs or alien evidence out of photos before they are released to the public. These photos are real, I stake my reputation on it. At first when I watched the below video I thought it was not real. The UFOs it shows are in the NASA photos. I'll have to admit I was a little taken aback when I saw the original photos. Buddhism and the God-idea. Do Buddhists believe in a god? No, we do not. There are several reasons for this. The Buddha, like modern sociologists and psychologists, believed that religious ideas and especially the god idea have their origins in fear. The Buddha says: Gripped by fear people go to sacred mountains, sacred groves, sacred trees and shrines.
Dp. 188 Primitive humans found selves in a dangerous and hostile world, the fear of wild animals, of not being able to find enough food, of injury or disease, and of natural phenomena like thunder, lightning and volcanoes were constantly with them. The second reason the Buddha did not believe in a god is because there does not seem to be any evidence to support this idea. The third reason the Buddha did not believe in a god is that the belief is not necessary. But if there are no gods how did the universe get here? All religions have myths and stories which attempt to answer this question. What does the Buddha say about the origin of the universe? Not so. NextNature.net – Exploring the Nature caused by People. Alan Watts Brings Eastern Wisdom to American TV Viewers in 1959 (Complete Episodes) Nearly forty years after his death, the words of Alan Watts still generate excitement. Fans trade them, in the form of texts, radio broadcasts, recorded talks, and television programs, both online and off. The British-born interpreter and popularizer of East Asian Buddhist thought generated most of his media in the San Francisco of the 1950s and 1960s, and his televised lectures, produced for local public station KQED, must have offered many a San Franciscan their very first glimpse of Zen.
Now that episodes of his series Eastern Wisdom and Modern Life have made it to YouTube (season one, season two), you can see for yourself that Watts’ then-cutting-edge delivery of this ancient wisdom remains entertaining, informative, and striking in its clarity. Begin with the introductory episode above, “Man and Nature,” in which Watts calmly lays out his observations of the ill effects of Westerners’ having grown to distrust their human instincts.
