Jalapeño Sausage Pizza with 3 Cheese Jalapeño Ranch Sauce. One of my favorite things to do when visiting my friends in Phoenix is to go eat at my besties pizzeria, Jimmy and Joe’s! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve definitely heard me mention Jimmy & Joe’s a time, or two, or twenty While I know that every topping combination they have is delicious, my order is always the same, Sausage, Jalapeño, Ricotta, or as I like to call it, “The Whitney”! Since I live in San Diego where there’s no Jimmy & Joe’s Pizzeria (not yet anyway ) I decided to make my own version of “The Whitney” at home! I wanted to make this pizza with a “Bond Girl Twist” so I decided to make my own white sauce! Three cheeses combined with spicy, flavorful ranch dressing… I could pretty much eat this sauce with a spoon…. but what’s even better is when you put it on top of a crispy pizza crust, topped with Italian sausage & fresh jalapeños, YUM!

Ingredients Preheat the oven to 425°. Heat a large skillet on the stovetop over medium high heat. Set the sausage aside. Half Baked Harvest - Made with Love. Most work days end at five in the evening with the realisation that there isn’t anything for dinner while standing in front of an open fridge crammed to capacity (something that is next on my list of resolutions to address – a lighter fridge). On those couple of nights a week when I cook either meat or fish, the recipe is always an impromptu creation slapped together with certain flavour combinations I have honed over the years and those that we love eating the most. A riff-raff of pantry ingredients, whatever herbs are thriving in my garden at the time and the ticking clock as a guide; dinner is usually always simple and utterly satisfying. I always said I was a hater because I was brought up to think that anything with mayo was bad. Plus, I’m not really a fan of cold food (unless it’s ice cream of course). I have since learned that certain uses of mayo are OK, but I am still not the hugest fan. Enter this salad. The eggs are good, so good, but yeah, if you plan to make this for a picnic this summer keep the eggs in a cooler. And of course if you are not a fan of eggs, you can just leave them out, but I kind of love the eggs. But lets talk about the dressing. Anyway, the dressing is kind of a creamy almond butter, chimichurri thing. I also used a lot of fresh basil and a little lemon juice to keeps things super light and summery. I added some grilled asparagus to the mix as well. And that’s pretty much it. Oh, and pretty freaking healthy.

I love bowl meals because they are easy to prepare, hold up well in the fridge, and offer a great variety of flavors and textures. But I recently started doing Jacqueline Smith’s Go Sugar Free course (affiliate link) and traditional BBQ sauce, which is laden with sugar, is not part of the plan.

So, I replaced the BBQ sauce in my original recipe concept with a lightly sweetened honey spice rub (similar to the one used in my Honey Spice Chicken Thighs), and these Sweet n’ Spicy Chicken Bowls were born! (The sugar free course is customizable and allows you to include some sweeteners, if needed. I included honey specifically for the purpose of balancing acids and heat in sauces and dressings, knowing that it would always be used sparingly.) Ever notice how you go through phases with certain dishes — practically living off of them for months and then one day you just...stop? Back when my husband and I first moved in together, polenta featured big in our weekly meal routine. Today's one-bowl meal is a reminder of how good warm polenta and a handful of fresh ingredients can truly be.
