A brick press named the CINVA ram has been made for many years for poorer countries to help locals make their own bricks. I took this concept and started working on my press. I had an old 20 ton bottle jack and had an idea that I could make myself a press using it as the force of compression. These are my first results. Even though they were pressed pretty hard, It needed some refinement The hydraulic jack press worked, but was slow and hard to load the clay mix into. Success! I decided to make a third press. When I get more pictures ready I will show you some of the results of the new press.

Retrofitting with Straw Bale and Cob (straw bale house forum at permies) Adding roof overhangs - Fine Homebuilding Question & Answer. Mike Guertin, a contributing editor to Fine Homebuilding, replies: Roof overhangs are a good idea on homes in most climates. Most home designs look better with overhangs. But they’re also functional. Overhangs shade windows from the summer sun, they help to keep water from dribbling off the roof and down the siding, and they’re a good place to hang gutters.
The installation of simple overhangs on a house involves nailing rafter extensions onto existing rafters. I limit the overhang to 2 ft. Start conventional overhangs by taking off the existing fascia and any other trim that covers the rafter tails. Determine the largest dimensional lumber you can slide between the roof sheathing and the plate (you don’t need a bird’s mouth on the extensions).
Have a helper pass the extensions into the attic from the outside.Nail an extension to each rafter with spikes every 6 in. to 8 in. With the rafter extensions installed, you can turn to trimming, sheathing and roofing. Armatusdesigns. The Crocodile's Bucket & Chain Water Pump : Finale. DIY 1000 watt wind turbine. Great designs can be recognized at a first glance and this next one is pure genius. We are talking about this amazing wind turbine which looks just like a tree, integrating perfectly into the surroundings. The wind turbine generates energy in an eco-friendly way, using a natural resource and has a pleasant aspect in contrast with other classical turbines.
The technology was developed by the French company, called New Wind and the look of the wind turbine is identical with those of trees. The efficiency of the product is guaranteed by the fact that it is functional in low wind too, something we can’t say about other products from this category. But still, the best feature of the product is its look and the fact that it doesn’t interfere with the harmony of nature, as it manages to blend in perfectly.
