Bill's world

A recurring theme in much of my 3D tinkering is knotted curves; you may also have noticed their presence as footer images on these very pages. Below are the four main knot-related images I've created. My interest in knots stems from two main sources. Firstly, I am a big fan of M.C.Escher's graphic art; it was in his work that I first saw a trefoil knot (he also constructed a moebius version). I'm interested not so much in discovering or manipulating knots as using them as a basis for more interesting, more 'applied' geometries. I am not a theoretical mathematician, and I don't really know anything about knot theory. The parametric equations used here are as follows: Trefoil knot: x = sin(a) + 2sin(2a) y = sin(3a) z = cos(a) - 2cos(2a) Figure-of-eight knot: x = (2 + cos(2a))cos(3a) y = (2 + cos(2a))sin(3a) z = sin(4a) 0 <= a <= 2pi Below are some development images from this early stage.

ZBrush matcap in Blender. Hello there, I'm a french user of Blender and I found a simple way to add the MatCap look in Blender materials with the use of material node.

ZBrush matcap in Blender

To see the matcap in the 3d viewport you need to active the glsl preview. -First step: Get the matcap ! In ZBrush, open the modifiers options of the Material panel and move your mouse cursor over the little bottom picture: (i.e. Attractor - consciouskidsfull.pdf. ZBrush Polypainting Tutorial. The following is a quick run through of a process I used, to generate textures sets for some weapon models using Maya and ZBrush.

ZBrush Polypainting Tutorial

A close up of the weapon in this tutorial can be found (here). Image 1: The first step was creating the low poly meshes in Maya. You could certainly start in ZBrush using any number of modeling tools but I guess this is just what I'm used to. I probably don't need to cover this step but maybe someone will find it useful. I usually box model from a cube or 6 sided cylinder and use the 1, 2 and 3 keys to preview the smooth mesh. Image 2: Once I have the file in ZBrush (A), the first thing I do is separate all the elements of the mesh into UVGroups based on the variety of materials. Image 3: At this point I'll save a version of the tool then divide each subtool to a sub-pixel level. During the painting stage I'll use alpha masking just like an airbrush artist does to expose and protect the surface.

When we interviewed Italian projection mapping artist Luca Agnani last week, he gave us a brief list of noteworthy peers he worked alongside at the City of Lights festival in Moscow, last fall.

Roberto Fazio's Light Studio Brings Projection Mapping To The Next Level

Some much needed insight, considering this relatively new iteration of spacial augmented reality is becoming more and more prominent in digital arts scenes the world over. One name he emphasized was Roberto Fazio—an Italian digital artist with a studio based in Bologna. Agnani called him, rather matter-of-factly, a “guru” in the field. Naturally you’re left to skeptically contemplate such lofty terms with a see-it-to-believe-it attitude, but a quick search through Fazio’s portfolio reveals why a guy as celebrated in the Italian visual arts scene as Agnani would throw laurels his way. In support of Agnani’s praise, we decided to profile a few of the works Fazio had a hand in. Below is a video of the projection, which debuted at the PhotoShow Milan: Malaga. Water worlds. Heat. Melting. Awry forms. Devastated settings. Torsos of the dreams. Surrealism is like a potion, made in the 1920s for the first time. "Surrealist manifesto" was written in 1924. Surrealism surprises and will never be played out. Self-examination, alienation, loneliness, madness, sadness, euphoria, mania, suspicion of a gone dream and all the possible human feelings create a particular and peculiar atmosphere of every work of a 3D designer.
