Lucid Dreaming. By lucid dreaming, you can gain complete control over the one place that no one will ever care about: your imagination. Just The Facts Lucid dreaming is a scientifically proven phenomenon. While some get into lucid dreaming in order to treat chronic nightmares, or to experience all facets of the human experience, approximately 99.8% of people use it as a tool for cheap and interactive 3D porn.

A lucid dream is a dream in which the dreamer is aware that he or she is dreaming, and he or she can even choose to control and manipulate his or her dream. How to Take Control of Your Dreams: So, you've doubled your weight over the past five years, you own a record-shattering collection of greasy pizza boxes and broken aspirations, and you're beginning to consider installing a toilet bowl in the place of your computer chair? In order to even begin to get control over your dreams, there are a few preliminary tasks you must complete. The Tasks: 1. "What? " Calm down! 2. Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams: L'esprit de l'escalier. L'esprit de l'escalier or l'esprit d'escalier ("staircase wit") is a French term used in English that describes the predicament of thinking of the perfect retort too late. Origin[edit] This name for the phenomenon comes from French encyclopedist and philosopher Denis Diderot's description of such a situation in his Paradoxe sur le comédien.[1] During a dinner at the home of statesman Jacques Necker, a remark was made to Diderot which left him speechless at the time, because, he explains, "l’homme sensible, comme moi, tout entier à ce qu’on lui objecte, perd la tête et ne se retrouve qu’au bas de l’escalier" ("a sensitive man, such as myself, overwhelmed by the argument levelled against him, becomes confused and can only think clearly again [when he reaches] the bottom of the stairs").

In this case, “the bottom of the stairs” refers to the architecture of the kind of hôtel particulier or mansion to which Diderot had been invited. Similar English terms[edit] In other languages[edit] Unbelievable Paper Transformer. Tall Painting.

Japanese numbers. [Back to the main Japanese page] When learning a foreign language, you would think that at least the numbers would be simple (don't we all have ten fingers?). We do all have ten fingers, but actually, number-related expressions in Japanese can be confusing. Learning to Count All Over Again There are several differences between the way Japanese and Indo-European languages deal with numbers. First of all, in Japanese there are two words for four, seven, and nine, but they're not interchangeable; you just have to know which one to use in each case.

But that's only the beginning of the number woes. First, the "counter" system. Now, there is a second, more generic, number system, in which you don't need a counter. Why use counters? Many languages classify nouns into various groups. English is one of the rare languages that has neither counters nor gendered nouns. But wait-- there's even more about numbers to confuse the Western mind. Not so in Japanese.

Via my evil twin Richard Wiseman comes one of the best color optical illusions I have ever seen. The original was apparently posted on Buzzhunt Akiyoshi Kitaoka’s incredible optical illusion website: You see embedded spirals, right, of green, pinkish-orange, and blue? Incredibly, the green and the blue spirals are the same color. At first I thought Richard was pulling our collective legs, being a trickster of high magnitude. So I loaded the image in Photoshop and examined the two spirals. In the two squares displayed below, the one on the left is colored using the same color from the blue spiral, and on the right using the green spiral. Like I said, incredible!

The reason they look different colors is because our brain judges the color of an object by comparing it to surrounding colors. See? The overall pattern is a spiral shape because our brain likes to fill in missing bits to a pattern. So the next time someone swears they saw Jesus, or a UFO, or a ghost, show them this picture. American botanist Lou Jost, one of the world's leading orchid hunters, is responsible for discovering 60 new species of orchid in the last decade alone.

But it's his latest discovery that might be the most unique and unusual. "I found it among the roots of another plant that I had collected, another small orchid which I took back to grow in my greenhouse to get it to flower," he said of his latest discovery. "A few months later I saw that down among the roots was a tiny little plant that I realized was more interesting than the bigger orchid.

" As reported by The Independent, the minuscule new orchid is just 2.1 mm wide, and instantly supersedes the species Platystele jungermannioides as the world's smallest. In fact, the petals are so thin that they are just one cell thick and transparent. It was found in the Cerro Candelaria reserve in the Ecuadorian Andes, a remote region made famous as home to most of the world's smallest orchids. Code of Conduct. Still Looking For Paradise?
