QR codes are 2-dimensional bar codes that encode arbitrary text strings. A common use of QR codes is to encode URLs so that people can scan a QR code (for example, on an advertising poster, building roof , volleyball bikini , belt buckle , or airplane banner ) to load a web site on a cell phone instead of having to “type” in a URL. QR codes are encoded using Reed-Solomon error-correcting codes , so that a QR scanner does not have to see every pixel correctly in order to decode the content. The error correction makes it possible to introduce a few errors (fewer than the maximum that the algorithm can fix) in order to make an image. For example, in 2008, Duncan Robertson took a QR code for “http://bbc.co.uk/programmes” (left) and introduced errors in the form of a BBC logo (right): That's a neat trick and a pretty logo, but it's uninteresting from a technical standpoint. http://research.swtch.com/qart

Smitten come Smote, Edinburgh | urban exploration | sleepycity

http://sleepycity.net/posts/148/Smitten-come-Smote-Edinburgh A chill wind howled over the Firth of Forth's icy waters, blasting rain into my face with a bitter sting. In the haze far below small waves rose from the turbulent water. Scotland turned her fury against us and there was naught we could do but tuck our faces deeper into saturated hoods and cower at the scene around us. The Forth Rail Bridge glowed a brilliant crimson against the angry sky, flinching not an inch within the maelstrom of the gale. Standing high over the waters, encircled by a swirling shield of the elements, this night she was nigh on impenetrable to the likes of us. It's only 300m, what are you waiting for?
http://project.cyberpunk.ru/idb/what_is_cyberspace.html In a recent issue of the Computer Law & Security Report [1], Bernard Zajac suggested that readers might want to peruse some of the "cyberpunk" novels-in particular the works of William Gibson-in order to gain an insight into the organisation and behaviour of hackers. While wholly commending the incitement to read Gibson's work, we feel that this view understates the breadth of vision of the cyberpunk genre and could mislead, because the "console men" and "keyboard cowboys" of Gibson's works are not really the same people as the hackers of today. We thought it might therefore be both entertaining and stimulating to provide readers with an overview of the world of cyberspace and to draw attention to some elements of the works where we feel that there are indeed some points worth further analysis and discussion. Is it possible that, like Arthur C.

What Is Cyberspace?

A decade into the 21st Century and we have arrived at the future. The promise of Tomorrow. But instead we have looming energy crises, endless middle east conflict and more disappointing, we have no flying cars, Heck, for all the bright and clean future promised in 2001: A Space Odyssey, none of the real companies used as brands in the film even exist anymore. Even moving from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s, nobody makes DeLoreans (although they occasionally sell on Ebay), but cloning and tablet computing (as promised by Star Trek: The Next Generation) have more or less come to pass in this century. It is not the gizmos or the distopian aesthetics, that have brought Science Fiction into the new millennium, but the questions it asks of people or society in a future time or place and how they reflect on our own times.

60 Ways To Make Life Simple Again - StumbleUpon

When we were young life was easier, right? I know sometimes it seems that way. But the truth is life still is easy. It always will be. The only difference is we’re older, and the older we get, the more we complicate things for ourselves. You see, when we were young we saw the world through simple, hopeful eyes.

10 Ways To Be Happy, On Purpose | PickTheBrain | Motivation and Self... - StumbleUpon

http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/10-ways-to-be-happy-on-purpose/ I was at a Women’s Leadership Conference about a year ago and had an “ah-ha moment”. We were all introducing ourselves and asked to share a few things to help with the process. One question left me baffled and ultimately changed my life; “What do you do to make yourself happy?”. At the time I honestly didn’t know.
Materials mnufacturer Corning put together a futurist video last month called "A Day Made Of Glass," which has spiraled into stratospheric popularity on YouTube. The premise of the video is that we're about to live in an era of ubiquitous touchscreens (made with glass) and smart windows (made of glass) as well as appliances like stoves which are also made with glass. What's striking about the video is mostly how we see the touch screens working, and the way the mobile devices seamlessly network with household appliances, TVs, and bendable flat screen computers. There's also a very paranoia-inducing, panopticon feeling to what we're seeing.

Wikipedia was one site that went dark to protest SOPA and PIPA act now being debated in America’s Congress. If they pass, will the Internet look like this? In case you missed it, a good part of the Internet went “dark” on 18-Jan-2012 to protest two bills now being considered in US Congress. They are H.R.3261 (aka “Stop Online Piracy Act,” or SOPA) and S.968 (aka “Protect Intellectual Property Act,” or “Protect IP” or PIPA). These two bills, IF passed and signed into law, are supposed to end… or at least curtail… Internet “piracy.”

In Zen Buddhism, zazen (literally " seated meditation "; Japanese : 坐禅 ; simplified Chinese : 坐禅 ; traditional Chinese : 坐禪 ; pinyin : zuò chán ; Wade–Giles : tso 4 -ch'an 2 ) is a meditative discipline practitioners perform to calm the body and the mind, and be able to concentrate enough to experience insight into the nature of existence and thereby gain enlightenment ( satori ). [ edit ] Significance Zazen is considered the heart of Zen Buddhist practice.

How to Be Yourself - wikiHow

Just be yourself. That sentence is quite possibly the most commonly used phrase in the history of advice: Be yourself. It's such a vague adage. What do they really mean when they tell you to be yourself? And is it really as easy as it sounds?
If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. - Toni Morrison Good advice. And screenwriting is no different. If there’s a movie you want to see but hasn’t been written, write it yourself. But be original. Having a good idea and writing a solid script is almost never enough.
