According to #langchat participants, the best assessments are those that incorporate and prepare students for real-world language interaction. @cadamsf1 summarized the key point of last Thursday’s #langchat conversation simply: “Less is more with summative assessments so that kids use the language and have success!” Participants in the chat shared some interesting perspectives about how and when to do summative assessments. A number of great ideas were given about making summative assessments work to improve students’ communication and prepare them for real-world language exchanges.
Defining “Quality” Summative Assessments Although each #langchat teacher has a different style of teaching, there are many elements of summative assessments that most teachers incorporate. @garnet_hillman said, “Quality summative assessments occur when the students apply and use what they have learned in class in their own way.” How Much Summative Assessment is Too Much? Student-Centered Assessment 1. 2. 3. 4. TPRS + Realidades | The Comprehensible Classroom. It sounds like there are a lot of teachers out there that use Realidades and are looking for ways to incorporate TPRS and CI into it, beyond what the TPRS supplement suggests.
I typed up this document for one such teacher, and I am sharing it here for anyone else who finds him or herself in the same situation. If you are a Realidades teacher, please visit the link below to the editable document and add in activities that YOU use in each chapter! The most important thing to remember, IMHO, is that you don’t need a fancy story or a clever activity to teach something with comprehensible input. CI is the most natural way to use language, because all you have to do is lead a conversation with your students that involves the words or grammatical structures that you are trying to teach. Get lots of repetitions, and your students will acquire the language!! Read about my ideas for using TPRS/CI with Realidades here. Like this: Like Loading... LaCocinaTV. Free Technology for Teachers. Using Smartboard Technology to Teach the Future and Conditional Tenses - KNILT. ETAP 623 Fall 2010 Vivian's Portfolio Page Unit 1 - Will/Would Introduction As an introduction to this unit, I will ask students what words in English they use to talk about things in the future. As a result of our discussion, students will realize that the key word in English that will cue them to use the future tense in Spanish is "will". Similarly, they will walk away from the lesson knowing that the key word in English that will cue them to use the conditional tense in Spanish is "would".
Because it flows well with this grammar, this unit we will be focusing on vocabulary about employment. The smart board activities allow students to access information in more ways than one. Instructional Objectives At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to: Recognize when it is appropriate to use the future and conditional tenses in Spanish Use the correct key words for the future and conditional tenses when prompted Pre-Requisite Skills Instructional Activities Moving On... This interactive clock features movable hands and operates in three main modes to teach different concepts: telling time, understanding angles, and learning fractions. The clock’s colors and overall style can also be customized. Note that the available controls change depending on the selected mode. Common Controls The controls located above the mode selector are always visible. At the top, a digital clock can be switched between formats: click the 12 button for a standard 12-hour display with AM/PM, or the 24 button for a 24-hour format.
