Aug 26 I am sure many of you have seen Trefis.com and it’s glitzy interface – the site allows you view palettes of products major corporations have and to get some insight into relative (financial) importance each product has on the company’s bottom line. I’ve played with Apple a bit – the iPad unit sales projections Trefis has are, in my eyes, a bit optimistic (30M by 2014) – but hey, Trefis allows you to modify the scenario, drop or jack up the numbers – if they are wrong – go ahead an correct them.

The GUI is super nice… Screenshots below – first the relative importance of each product to Apple: …Trefis’ iPad Unit Sales projections: Again, I think Trefis is a bit optimistic but still relatively aligned with some early projections that around 10M units might be sold in 2010 (see the first projections here. Apple’s iPad Reduces Netbook Sales. Netbooks have become hugely popular since ASUS released the first one a couple of years ago, they have seen massive growth over the last few year, and now it looks like that may be about to change, this is mainly down to the Apple iPad.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley have been researching netbooks sales and it looks that they have started slowing down since January, when Apple announced the iPad. Last summer netbook’s sales were up 641 percent over the previous year, but since January netbook sales have been declining, and have started to decline more rapidly in April when the Apple iPad went on sale. Analyst Raises Estimate for 2010 Apple iPad Sales - John Paczkowski - Mobile. Here’s a stunner of a data point: Apple is selling more than 200,000 iPads per week. Which means, according to RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky, that sales of the company’s new device have outpaced those of the Mac in the United States and are closing in on those of the iPhone 3GS. “Checks indicate that US iPad sales remain strong post-launch, driven by rising consumer visibility to iPad’s user experience, sustained PR/word-of-mouth marketing, 3G iPad launch, and broadening iPad apps/content,” Abramsky wrote in a note to clients this morning.

“We believe Apple is now selling >200k iPads/week, greater than US Macs (est. 110k Macs/week) and just below US iPhone 3GS first quart (246k/week).” Evidently, there’s quite a bit of pent-up demand for the device. Apple: Kindle Fire Could Help iPad Sales. Apple is not overly concerned about the impact of the Kindle Fire on the iPad, and says the Amazon tablet might actually help iPad sales in the long run, according to a new report. If anything, the Kindle Fire, Nook Tablet, and other low-priced options might help introduce consumers to the tablet market, prompting them to eventually upgrade to more feature-rich devices like the iPad, the report said. In October, Apple said it had sold more than 40 million iPads since it first debuted last year.

On the iPhone, meanwhile, JP Morgan said there is no indication that sales are tapering off.
