Putin slams Washington over 'external interference' As the Russian presidential campaign gets under way, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin took a another swing at the US, criticising Washington of seeking vassals rather than allies.
“The US wants to control everything, sometimes I get the impression that the US doesn’t need allies, it needs vassals,” Putin told reporters on 25 January in the Siberian town of Tomsk. “They take decisions unilaterally on key questions.” Putin, who’s bidding for a new six-year term in the Kremlin in elections to be held on 4 March, said he would not tolerate external interference. “The leadership in Moscow is much more uncertain about just what’s going to happen politically in terms of the process even if they are sure of the outcome,” James Collins, who was the US ambassador to Russia from 1997 to 2001, told New Europe, referring to the presidential election in March that Putin is heavily favoured to win.
Russia-US relations, let alone Medvedev-Obama relations, have not been affected, the Russian president said. Russia: Attack on Tehran is Attack on Moscow.
Some Days After The Kazakh Oil Strike. Let us discuss the clash that occurred between striking oil workers and government forces in a town in western Kazakhstan in the result of which many innocent people were killed. On December 25 Prime Minister of Kazakhstan invited bloggers from Almaty and Astana to visit the Kazakh city of Zhanaozen to check the rumors that had spread following tragic events of December 16 2011. Russian authorities will allow up to 30,000 demonstrators to hold an anti-government rally after a week of protests in central Moscow against the results of last weekend's parliamentary elections.
Moscow city authorities approved the rally at a square across the river from the Kremlin after telling organizers that the original rally planned at Revolution Square by the Kremlin would be limited to 300 people, RIA Novosti reports. More than 30,000 people have already signed up to a Facebook page on Saturday's protest, and similar rallies are also planned in many cities across Russia to demand an investigation into the alleged vote fraud and calls for a new vote, the Associated Press reports. Some Russia analysts are now asking whether a martial arts fight in Moscow's Olimpisky Arena last Sunday night was one of those moments. The event was a mixed martial arts fight between Russia's Fedor Emelianenko and America's Jeff "The Snowman" Monson. It turned out the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was in the crowd. He is almost certain to return to the presidency in the elections in March, after his protege, Dmitry Medvedev, agreed not to stand in order to give him a free run.
Emelianenko won the fight and Vladimir Putin climbed into the ring to congratulate him, and that was when the unthinkable happened. The whole thing was broadcast live on the state-owned television channel Rossiya 2. Outraged fans.

It was still dark when a unit of German police commandos burst into a family home in the western town of Marburg at 06.30 a.m. last Tuesday.
Heidrun A. was sitting in her study in front of a wireless transmitter that was receiving encoded messages on a shortwave frequency and was hooked up by cable to a computer. The sudden appearance of armed officers in balaclavas must have been quite a shock -- the woman fell off her chair and pulled out the connecting cable between the receiver and the computer, thereby interrupting the recording of conspiratorial messages coming from the radio, accompanied by a special identification tune.
The Marburg arrest is the culmination of a secret, weeks-long effort by German security authorities to hunt down suspected Russian agents. It was an operation straight out of the annals of the Cold War. Heidrun A., 45, and her husband Andreas, 51, are suspected of having spent over 20 years as undercover agents spying on Germany for Moscow. Incriminating Evidence. Russia bans entry to US officials.
Russia bans entry to US officials in retaliation. MOSCOW (AP) — Russia has banned entry to U.S. officials allegedly involved in killings and abductions, a strong response to Washington's blacklisting of Russian officials involved in the prison death of a whistleblower. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday it was blacklisting unspecified U.S. officials it claims were involved in the abductions of alleged terrorism suspects, the torture of inmates at Guantanamo prison, the killings of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the abductions or abuse of Russians in the United States.
It did not say how many U.S. officials were affected. The action was in response to the U.S. State Department's decision in July to ban entry to dozens of unidentified Russian officials allegedly involved in the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. Magnitsky died in 2009 at age 37, when the pancreatitis he developed in jail was left untreated.
