Charlotte cop charged with assaulting drunk driver after acciden
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who was charged with assault after police say a drunk driver crashed into his mother's car has resigned from CMPD, and will likely never be a police officer again. Former officer David Jones III was charged with assault - inflicting serious injury last December when he was an active member of CMPD. Rick McVicker, the man he allegedly assaulted, is charged with DWI. The week of March 5, 2012, prosecutors agreed to drop the assault charges against Jones in exchange for his Basic Law Enforcement Training certificate (BLET), which means Jones' career as a police officer is over. Matthews Police say David Jones assaulted McVicker after he rear-ended a car being driven by Bonita Jones, David's mother. The accident happened on December 7th in Matthews.

Two brothers who work at a Southwest Side liquor store filed a federal lawsuit Friday alleging that Chicago police officers beat them when they said their harassment was caught on the store's security tape . Michael Ayala, 23, and his brother Adrian, 18, allege that while closing up the liquor store where they work last month, police officers mistook them for robbers and began "roughing up" Adrian, who was waiting outside the store, Fox Chicago reported last month. When they were released without charges, Michael says he told police that the incident had been caught on the stores security cameras and he "wasn't going to let it go."

A New Orleans police officer has been fired for lying about allegedly kicking a Warren Easton High School student in the head last year after a fight near the Mid-City school. Superintendent Ronal Serpas said in a news release officer Chadwick Taylor, 32, used unauthorized force during the Sept. 24, 2010 fight and later violated the department's truthfulness rule. During a disciplinary hearing last week, a hearing officer recommended a 20-day suspension for the unauthorized use of force and termination for the truthfulness violation, Serpas said.
