SMALL Business and Marketing. As time moves forward so does technology! Small business owners find it difficult to navigate the constantly changing digital landscape. They often do not know where to start creating a digital strategy because small business owners do not have time to stay current on developing technologies. The upside to the emerging technologies is that different tools are constantly being developed to help small business owners manage their businesses. It was my pleasure to research various resources/tools that benefit small businesses and share them with my #newhousesm6 class.

As part of the presentation I shared digital business tools commonly used by small businesses to handle administrative duties and marketing communications. We had the opportunity to demo the marketing communications app @getglyder which is commonly used to create on the spot marketing graphics. Take a look at the presentation on Slideshare! As more and more data continues to pour in about small businesses’ adoption of social media, a few things are becoming crystal clear.

The first is that no platform has truly set itself apart from another, despite which survey you look at and what type of small business you ask. Many would argue Facebook has, but others disagree. The second is that the adoption of social media platforms continue to grow, but at a disparate pace (i.e. sometimes fast, sometimes slow). Third, it’s very obvious that small businesses are (still) very much in the “feeling out” stage when it comes to what works and what doesn’t related to social media. Perceptions are constantly (and consistently) changing, value to the business differs and new platforms continue to sprout up each year. So how do we come to any concrete conclusions about small business social media use?

Know what it was? That’s right, 17% cited “none” as having the second most potential for helping their businesses. PorscheNichols: #nhsmallbiz Talk... #NHSMALLBIZ TALK. PorscheNichols : #nhsmallbiz Talk...
