Twitter made it clear last week that it would no longer support developers making new Twitter client apps, and that it would keep a tight leash on existing third-party clients.
Here's The Real Reason Why Twitter Is Telling Developers To Stop Making Twitter Clients
When Twitter 's platform lead Ryan Sarver sent out a missive to developers last week telling them to stop building Twitter clients, he argued that users should rely on the "official" Twitter apps. Sarver maintained that, indeed, most users were already doing so: "According to our data, 90% of active Twitter users use official Twitter apps on a monthly basis." That assertion caught the attention of Sysomos , as Twitter's data seemed inconsistent with some of the analysis that the social media analytics company has done on the Twitter ecosystem.
Just How Popular Are Unofficial Twitter Clients?
Only 58% of tweets come from official Twitter clients, according to new data from Sysomos, shedding some light on Twitter platform chief Ryan Sarver’s assertion last week that “90% of all active Twitter users use official Twitter apps on a monthly basis.”

What has Twitter become?

As such, any time that Twitter makes a change to its service (API to user streams, for instance), it’s a pretty big blip on my radar.
