We don't want to wake you in the night! If you're outside the UK please click here for important time zone info . Though everyone's welcome to take part, mappiness was originally intended for the UK only. Because of this, the "Don't beep before" and "Don't beep after" times in the app settings are always UK times , wherever in the world you are.

Know Thy Time :: StartupCFO : Mark MacLeod

As I’ve mentioned on this blog before, I’m a big Peter Drucker fan. He advised some of the World’s largest companies but his insights apply to individuals and to companies of any size. One of his favourite statements was “know thy time”. i.e if you want to be effective in business, you should know where you spend your time.
Alex Chernavsky has kindly given me several years of weight data he collected by weighing himself daily. He read about the Shangri-La Diet in 2005 and several years later decided to try it. The graph above shows what happened: Starting at 222 pounds (BMI = 32), over 11 months he lost 31 pounds, reaching a BMI of 27. Since then — while continuing the diet — his weight has increased at roughly the same rate it was increasing before he started the diet. He started by drinking olive oil and sugar water, switched to olive oil alone, and then, finally, to flaxseed oil alone of which he drinks 3.5 tablespoons/day (= 420 calories/day). http://quantifiedself.com/2011/03/18-months-on-the-shangri-la-diet/

Earphones that will measure your hearing and analyze the emotional level of people you are listening to (sound analysis already allows that!), interesting for total communication (i.e. beyond words and including body language).

User Generated Health | Quantified Self

http://quantifiedself.com/2011/03/user-generated-health/ Last week I had the great opportunity to see a series of demos of Lifelogging apps from students from Stanford’s CS247 Computer Human Interaction Design Studio. I would really recommend checking out the demos here . These are some great creative minds and future QSers (I hope).

Share Your Experience Tracking Your Resolutions

http://quantifiedself.com/2011/01/share-your-experience-tracking-your-resolutions/ Misha Chellam had a great suggestion to create a form so people can share their experiences tracking their goals and resolutions. Here’s a form where you can share your experiences . Note that the data is publicly shared here . To help you start, Misha’s example was:
4. Enter total number of completed steps and enter into Daytum app along with date, location, whether it was in a building, subway station or outdoors. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AqmYb15GYrLrdHZ3cGpmckhBQi1DeVFOampxb3YycHc&hl=en&authkey=COGd_Sc#gid=0

The Future of Education: Online and Quantified

If you haven’t checked out Khan Academy yet, now is the time. Bill Gates calls it “the future of education,” and Salman Khan himself has a very inspiring perspective. Khan spoke at the most recent TED conference about his project to create a series of free online videos and detailed self-assessments to educate anyone in the world. The audience gave him a long standing ovation, and I got chills watching it at home. Here’s the video, and my own Khan Academy experience below it. Yes, I’ll admit it, I do math exercises for fun – sometimes hours a day.

What is The Quantified Self? | Quantified Self

With our first Quantified Self conference coming up, many people are learning about the Quantified Self for the first time. (Welcome, newcomers!) Here, I’ll give some of the history of the Quantified Self, with a focus on why we’re organized the way we are, and some ideas about how you can get the most out of the various things we do. I’ll also describe what we’ve got planned with a focus on the upcoming conference. This is the first in a series: Later posts will take up specific conference themes, and many different people will be contributing.
