Where in the World is Facebook Used?

Facebook hit 500 million users this week , but where do they all live? If Facebook were a country, it would be the third most populous in the world - but it's not a country.
With Facebook unveiling an integrated messaging system for its more than 500 million users , I decided to update a few charts that breakdown its users by region. III. Percent Share of each Age Group (within each Region): Relative to the U.S. (33%), the share of users ages 18-25 continues to be higher in Asia (44%), Africa (41%), and the Middle East / N. Africa (39%).

Facebook: More Than 160 Million Served

The Inside Facebook blog posted some astounding growth statistics this week for the social networking site. For one thing, Facebook is growing faster than the population in China. Through it all, the company has managed to keep its systems up and running and not suffer any growing pains outages that have often plagued fast growth start-ups. The independent blog , not published by Facebook, shows the company's growth in recent weeks has soared to more than 600,000 new users signing up every day, up from about 300,000 to 400,000 a day just a few months earlier. http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news/article.php/3792026/Facebook+More+Than+160+Million+Served.htm

As it tends to do every few months, Facebook has quietly made another round of updates to its official company Statistics page. Most of the changes are about increased sharing. Even as the number of users increases, the average user appears to be getting more engaged. Here’s how the changes compare to the last update in June and the one before in February . Facebook reached 500 million monthly active users in late August, by its own measure; that stat and a few others are unchanged, including the fact that more than have of active users log on in a given day, and that the average user has 130 friends. However, the total amount of time spent by these users on site is up considerably, from 500 million minutes in late June to 700 million now.

Is Facebook Use Plateauing? [STUDY]

Haven’t sent your friend a virtual Facebook gift in a while? You’re not alone, a new study reports. Researcher Global Web Index compared Facebook usage in July 2009 to June 2011 and found that several Facebook activities, like virtual gifting, are on the decline. Such gifting fell 12.9% in the U.S. and 7.5% worldwide over that period. Other activities that seem to be falling out of favor include messaging to friends (down 14.8% in the U.S. and 7.4% worldwide), joining a group (12.8%, 6.5%), searching for new contacts (12.7%, 4.5%), installing an app (10.4%, 3.1%) and instant messaging (7.5%, 1.5%). Those activities are not only falling faster in the U.S. than elsewhere, but are declining even more among under-30 college-educated users in the U.S.
