"moot") new startup for a while now, and today he tells us that the first public version of the site is out the door. Beta invites should be rolling out any moment now, as Poole is staggering their release to avoid too many people joining at one time. "We want to scale the community slowly and organically," he says. So what exactly is this community that Poole is building? Well, it's like 4chan — the image-based bulletin board that Poole founded seven years ago — but cleaned up, to a certain degree. "4chan is an old-school, anonymous free-for-all. I love it," Poole says. Canvas, like 4chan, is a forum that allows users to post content and engage with others, but instead of just posting to a board (ala 4chan), users must create accounts.
