Tapper's Delight: 20 Challenging Tapping Licks. Guthrie Govan guides you through 20 challenging tapping licks! Fretboard tapping has earned a bad name in certain sectors of the guitar community. Some players dismiss it as a technique suitable only for perpetrating the worst possible kind of overblown, unmusical histrionics, preferably played through a wall of amps that “go to 11.” If you feel that way, then you probably haven’t even managed to read this far. But for those of you who are still undecided about tapping, I would urge you to view the technique simply as an easy way to play notes you could never reach otherwise.

If you think of your tapping fingers as extensions of your fretting hand, you’ll find it easier to imagine how this technique can benefit virtually any style of playing. Track Record In the world of rock, Van Halen’s self-titled 1978 debut album heralded a tapping craze that soon caught on like wildfire. Tone Technique • If you’re hammering a note, the force of your hammering motion will dictate its volume. Muting. Guitar Effects. Solder Like a Pro. Given the DIY nature of this issue, I thought it would be appropriate to address good soldering technique. Because we have a limited amount of space, I won’t talk too much about tools, you can read about them in Dirk Wacker''s article this month, but suffice it to say you’ll want a decent soldering pencil (a small type of soldering iron) of at least 25 watts, though 40-60 watts is probably better.

You’ll also want a stand to hold the iron when not in use, a damp sponge, and some solder. You should also have some basic hand tools, such as wire strippers, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters and something to hold the wire in place while a solder joint cools. You can use a small screwdriver for this, although there are tools sold specifically for this, available through an electronics supply house. Step 1: Prepare the Joint Don’t hold the wire with your hands. Step 2: Clean the Tip Use a good soldering iron and keep the tip clean – you can use the damp sponge for this.

Guitars Rebellion - ESP Custom Shop & Fine Gear. 40 essential blues guitar intros and outros. 50 rock guitar licks you need to know. For the past few weeks, Guitar Techniques have been posting sections of this bumper feature showing you how to dramatically increase your rock soloing potential, and boost your fingerboard knowledge at the same time. Here, though, are all 50 licks in the same place for the first time. Scroll down for the full tutorial, and check out the gallery for larger tab… The main focus here in terms of vocabulary is classic rock, which we're going to define for the purposes of this study as pre-Van Halen, so you'll find no eight-finger tapping, no three-octave sweep picked arpeggios and no 32nd-note legato monster licks. What you will find, however, is a choice selection of medium-tempo classic rock phrases that are stylistically diverse, melodically flexible, and display a wide range of articulation and dynamic devices.

They are all also completely useable to guitarists of many levels and in a variety of settings. This study divides the fretboard into five areas, or positions. Scale diagrams. Music Scales. Fuzz Central -- Arbiter Fuzz Face. I personally do not think that wiring up PNP transistors (Silicon or Germanium) as negative ground is one of the best ideas. The PNP transistors are simply not meant to function with a negative ground and osciallation and "motorboating" sounds are common results of wiring a Fuzz Face with PNP transistors as such. Here's some more information from R.G.

Keen (GEOFEX): While in theory, the negative ground conversion for FF and other PNP circuits ought to work every time, there are a significant number of times where it causes oscillation, motorboating, etc. Sometimes you can clean this up by putting a big freaking capacitor across the power leads, sometimes you also need a low-impedance 0.1µF ceramic, too, and sometimes you need divine intervention. So, in my opinion, I would always leave PNP transistor-equipped circuits as positive ground.

Guitar Bridges: The What And The Why | Seymour Duncan Blog. Guitars are stringed instruments, and as with all instruments that utilize strings, there has to be a fixing point for them.

These points are called bridges and they come in several forms and shapes. Generally speaking, there are two major types of bridges: fixed bridges and moving bridges (the latter generally but erroneously called tremolos). Let’s take a look at the different types of bridges and what kind of unique feature they have. Fixed Bridges Fixed bridges are common amongst acoustic guitars, semi-acoustic guitars and many solid body guitars. They all share a common thread in their design, being that the tension of the string isn’t momentarily changeable halfway during playing. Wraparound This design uses a metal bar that’s fixed to the body. Telecaster ‘Ash Tray’ Bridge This design is a bit more complicated than the wraparound bridge. Tune – 0 – Matic/Stop tail combination 2 Tek This bridge is a very complicated design.

Let's assume that in some key T means tonic, D - dominant, М - mediant, d - subdominant, m - submediant. Let f1 be some function; the tone to which f1 corresponds we'll assume to be tonic; and in the new key the tone to which function f2 corresponds we'll assign in relation to initial tonal function f1f2. Let's note, that Dd=Mm=T; and corresponding numerical equations are 3·(1/3)=1 and 5·(1/5)=1. 2.
